Synod on Synodality – Parish Response
Over the past few months, we conducted listening sessions (online, virtually, and in person) in order to participate in the world-wide Synod. It was a rich and engaging process. Thank you to all who took part. Below are the links to the reports from both Assumption and St Boniface. Thank you also to the committees (at both parishes) that undertook the difficult task of combining the many and diverse responses. The respective reports were submitted recently to the diocese of Brooklyn Synod team, who will in turn seek to combine the nearly 200 responses from the different parishes in the diocese. These are then combined into a national report to be submitted to Rome. Towards the end of next year there will be a meeting of world-wide representatives of the Church to discuss all the findings and make recommendations. We submitted our reports at a meeting of local our deanery. Our new Bishop, Robert Brennan, was there to listen to the responses. Under his hospitable leadership the sharing was very honest, open and direct. Many of the same issues as were raised in our reports were voiced by our neighboring parishes. We are hopeful that the Holy Spirit so evident in this process continues to animate the whole church as the Synod process proceeds.

Update on Willoughby Street Hi-Rise Building Project
The Finance Committee’s report to the parish last December mentioned that the high- rise project had been slowed down because of pandemic-related delays in the developer’s ability to obtain financing. We can now report that the developer has successfully obtained financing, and the project appears to be back on track after the delay. (You may have noticed that demolition on the upper floors of the old buildings has commenced.) The developer recently made a large rental payment to the parish that was contingent upon the financing. This is good news, because that payment (and more) will be needed to build out of the new parish space in the building, which will be a substantial long term benefit to our community. We will continue to monitor the project and provide updates from time to time.
