Tackling a potent climate issue by partnering with Synthica
Synthica is a leading energy transition platform that aims to design, build, own and operate large-scale, contracted anaerobic digestion (AD) facilities to convert pre-consumer organic waste into carbon negative renewable natural gas (RNG). To do this, Synthica focuses on generating, capturing and valorizing methane, a potent greenhouse gas, from the waste process. Synthica’s main mission is to provide a sustainable disposal outlet for organic waste materials that have historically been sent to landfills.
50% of material sent to a landfill is organic waste that could otherwise have been upcycled through AD facilities to green energy.
Once in a landfill, this organic waste emits methane. By some estimates, methane is 80x more potent at warming the environment than carbon dioxide, and has accounted for 30% of global warming since pre-industrial times. Additionally, data shows that ~60% of methane emissions from solid waste landfills are from food waste.
