Did You Know?

Discover the salary you need to fit your lifestyle!

The Wizard of Jobs is a reality check tool intended to give students an idea of how much it really costs to live the way they want to live. Using real Kansas and national pricing data, students make selections from various categories, including what type of home they want to live in, what their transportation situation would look like, etc. The Wizard of Jobs takes these selections and estimates how much the student needs to make in a year to maintain their lifestyle.

Note: After completing the Wizard of Jobs, head over to the VCC's Occupation Finder to find occupations that fit your salary needs!

Did you know KANSASWORKS and the Local Workforce Boards can provide resources and support in connecting with local employers in your community, as well as opportunities for students to participate in job fairs, employability skills workshops, and other programs?

Spotlight on Statistics

Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month

April marks a time to increase the understanding and appreciation of mathematics and statistics.

Why? Both subjects play a significant role in addressing many real-world problems—internet security, disease, sustainability, climate change, the data deluge, and much more. Research in these and other areas is ongoing, revealing new results and applications every day in fields such as medicine, manufacturing, energy, biotechnology, and business. Mathematics and statistics are important drivers of innovation in our technological world, in which new systems and methodologies continue to become more complex.

This year's theme is The Power of Many: How Mathematics & Statistics Strengthen Communities. Try out MSAM's The Community Game with your students to teach them how statistics power everyday life and strengthen communities. From hospitals, highways, and schools to food banks, recycling, and voting, data keeps everything moving!

Use #MathStatMonth to share events and activities on your social media platforms.
