T'ai Chi is coming to Blueberry Gardens!

We are excited to welcome a new T'ai Chi class to join our schedule of weekly movement and meditation classes in the Octagon beginning May 15. See below for more information and a complete list of what's happening this Spring at Blueberry Gardens.

Beginning T'ai Chi

This class is a blend between Qigong (pronounced “Chee Gong”) and T’ai Chi with a focus on balance, control, and mental focus. It is intended for those with no experience with T’ai Chi as well as those who prefer to experience the benefits of T’ai Chi with a minimal number of steps a form.

When practiced regularly over time, T’ai Chi and Qigong improve balance, lower fall risk, increase flexibility, relieve pain and stress, lower

blood pressure, and increase mental focus and awareness.

T’ai Chi is one type of Qigong. Qigong is an older practice that includes gentle movement, breathing techniques, self-massage, and meditation. Students will experience the gentle calming practice of Qigong while learning principles of T’ai Chi.

The T’ai Chi forms are repetitive patterns that emphasize slow, flowing motions and controlled movements. They contain five to nine movements based upon the Institute of Integral Qigong and T’ai Chi (IIQTC)’s T’ai Chi EasyTM and Integral T’ai Chi forms.

Wear loose clothing. No special equipment is needed.

Nancy Goldberg has been practicing T’ai Chi since 2005 and Qigong since 2011. She was immediately drawn to its grounding and therapeutic nature, and credits it with helping her reduce stress and maintain her balance. After retiring as a systems engineer in 2022, she obtained certifications to teach both Qigong and T’ai Chi from the IIQTC and then started her teaching practice. In her previous profession, she developed skills to break complex challenges into simpler, more manageable tasks to be performed by a team. She brings this ability to her teaching practice: simplifying complex steps into easy to follow instructions. She enjoys both teaching and learning from her students.

Yoga is an ancient spiritual practice that supports our desire for physical and mental health and spiritual harmony. Hatha yoga is the yoga that focuses more on physical well-being and helping to bring our bodies into balance using breathing, relaxation and body awareness through yoga asanas, or postures. More than a physical exercise, yoga encompasses mindfulness, concentration, and mental awareness in a non-competitive environment. Anyone can do yoga at a pace that is appropriate for them.
