via NAAA- Wesley Jerome Fojtik, a Texas ag pilot, was fatally injured in a collision with a tower on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018 near Placedo, Texas. Fojtik, 40, of Edna, Texas was flying an Air Tractor 502B registered to Coastal Flying Service, Inc. when he apparently collided with a communication tower and crashed nearby. Placedo is approximately 100 miles southwest of Houston.
Fojtik's accident is the third fatal tower collision this year involving ag aviators. The other two occurred in Oklahoma near El Reno and Enid. Ironically, Fojtik previously survived a July 2017 collision with a 30-foot communications tower and sustained no injuries.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Amy, and six-year old son, Cort. Amy wrote that Cort was so proud of his daddy that he asked to be in the obituary picture so that everyone knows that they belong together. The family asks that people wear bright colors in honor of Wesley to celebrate his life.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, from 4-8 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel, 900 Navidad, Edna, Texas 77857. Funeral service is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018 in the First Baptist Church of Edna, 309 Cottonwood St. in Edna with interment immediately following the funeral service in the Fojtik Cemetery in Edna.
