TABOR Refunds

money-icon.gif

Do you have kids in college? Do you have kids under 18 years old who are required to file a return? Are you a low-income senior? You may be required to file a CO tax return by April 15 to claim your refund!

Colorado is again refunding state sales tax revenues that have exceeded the spending limit set by the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights (TABOR). This year, the Department of Revenue is refunding flat payments via the filing of CO Individual Income Tax Returns (DR 0104).

To receive your sales tax refund of $800 (single filer) or $1600 (married filing jointly):

  • You must be 18 years or older as of January 1, 2023 (your dependent under age 18 must have a filing requirement of earned income over $13,850)
  • You must have been a full-year resident in 2023
  • You file a 2023 DR 0104 by April 15, 2024 if you are not claiming a refund of wage withholding, do not owe CO income tax, or are not required to file a CO return because you have no federal filing requirement
  • You file a 2023 DR 0104 by October 15, 2024 if you claim a refund of wage withholding, owe CO income tax, and are required to file a CO return as well as a federal return

Don't wait until the last minute to determine eligibility and filing requirements for the refund - contact your Tax Manager today with any questions!
