A periodic communication to our Scouting Families

National Youth Leadership Training – NYLT

Transatlantic Council held a highly successful NYLT course in July at Camp Freedom. Thirty-seven Scouts from six Districts graduated and now have the tools to take their units to greater heights. The course theme was the Cars movie. Led by Aaron G (Lightning McQueen) and mentored by Andrew Wright (Doc Hudson) the staff of 26 youth and adults provided leadership training covering communication, ethical and moral decision making, finding your vision, leading yourself, planning, servant leadership and much more. All of this was achieved through games and activities with a purpose. Key to this was being safe, having fun combined with lots of enthusiasm. For many Scouts the highlight of the course was the outpost experience where they hiked in their patrols for the afternoon, cooked dinner on a fire, made a shelter, and slept in it.

If you want to develop your unit leadership, look out for details of the next course at Camp Freedom from 9 to 15 August 2026.
