Positive Outlook for Tennis in 2021
While our sport might look different with COVID additional health and safety guidelines in place, tennis is a sport conducive to social distancing. Tennis has helped many to remain physically and socially active during the pandemic. With COVID-19 vaccines beginning to roll-out and other recent positive trends, the outlook for tennis in 2021 looks bright.

According to the USTA, tennis racket sales were up 43% during the third quarter of 2020 and 22% for the year. The Physical Activity Council reported a near 50% increase in tennis participation in the U.S. in the third quarter of 2020 vs. 2019. These trends coincide with when most of the country was reopening (July to Sept. 2020), and likely signal more new and returning players to tennis.

While USTA Kentucky and TACK league registrations were down last year with the pandemic, 857 players have registered for the current 2021 TACK Session I Adult and Fun Leagues. 2021 TACK Winter Fun League even experienced a 45% increase in player registrations over last year with more teams signing up than EVER BEFORE.
Meet the Board:
Joe Ross, Vice President
[Over the coming weeks the TACK newsletter will introduce each of the members of the Board of Directors. We hope you'll take the time to read about us, but, even better, we hope you will get to know us in person!]
How long have you been playing tennis, and what got you started?
I’ve been playing tennis since I was 12 years old, but took a long break between high school and now. I started playing because my dad was really into tennis and I have always looked up to him.

What is your favorite league to play in and why? (Adult, Combo, Mixed etc.)
I love them all, but I think Combo is my favorite. It’s fun to play with people of different skill levels on the same side of the court as you.

What do you enjoy/look forward to about volunteering for TACK?
I’m enjoy meeting new people and getting people introduced or re-introduced to tennis.

If you could attend one of the four grand slams, which would you choose, and why?
I would love to go to Wimbledon. It has such a tradition and I would love to visit Great Britain.

If you could be any piece of household furniture, what would you be, and why?
I would be a home stereo. I LOVE listening to music.
Let's play tennis in 2021!
