Tri-Level -- Doubles with a Twist!
On February 27-March 1, TACK will again host its Tri-Level "tournament."
Team Registration is open now! Deadline for initial rosters is Friday, Feb. 14.
- What? Matches are 3 doubles courts, one each of different/adjacent ratings, 6 players per match. The most common rating is 3.0/3.5/4.0.
- Who? All common age groupings (18+, 40+, 55+). With overlapping ratings, many players play multiple teams. (For example, a 4.0 between ages 40-55 could play on any of 3.0/3.5/4.0 or 3.5/4.0/4.5 teams, in either 18+ or 40+ age groups.)
- How? Although TACK does Tri-Level as a 3-day weekend "tournament," it's run through TennisLink like any other USTA indoor league, with a normal $25 registration fee and court fees at play time.
- When? Friday, Feb. 27 through Sunday, March 1. Some early matches may be scheduled Thursday, Feb. 26 if we need the court time.
- Where? Once again, TACK will be partnering with the Lexington Tennis Club, with possible overflow covered by other clubs.
- Why?
- Party! TACK hosts a party after play on Saturday. We've had special adult beverages and chili cook-off competitions in past Tri-Level weekends, but this year might be different!
- Advancement. Tri-Level is like any other USTA league...
- State Championship (August 21-23, Owensboro). This tournament tends to be slimly attended, so here's your chance to make a big State Championship splash!
- Southern Sectionals (Oct. 16-18) are again in Louisville, so you won't have to travel far if you win State!
- Nationals. If you're lucky enough to win Sectionals (and your team is 18+ 3.5/4.0/4.5), the USTA Nationals are held in Indian Wells! (Dates TBD, likely March 2021.)
- Social. Since one team supports three different ratings levels, here's your chance to get to know players you normally wouldn't meet in league play!

Session 2 Registration Opens Wednesday, Jan. 15
Yes, Session 1 just started, but Session 2 is coming! Here's who plays in Session 2 (mid-March through May)
- 18+ 2.5, 3.0, 4.0
- 40+ 3.5, 4.5
- 55+ 3.0, 4.0
- "Fun League" 18+/3.5, 4.5
(A reminder, "Fun Leagues" happen during "off" Sessions: 18+ ratings not served by the current session. In this case, 18+/3.5 and 4.5 are active in Session 1, but starting March 15 have no play opportunities until the doubles seasons begin in June.)
The Initial Roster Deadline for Session 2 is Saturday, February 29. Watch for a formal announcement in a week or two.

Captain's Corner
Here are some Tri-Level "hacks" for captains thinking about this fun league.
What age categories?
18+ age categories will have more entries, but if you qualify, the 40+ category will have fewer, with better chances for advancement. (Tri-Level has historically never had the 55+ categories "make" -- maybe this year?)
How big a team roster? ...shared team members?
Most teams shoot for 10+ players, depending on weekend availability and the # of teams each player decides to join. The "tournament" format means continuous play over the whole weekend. There won't be back-to-back matches for any one team, but not all shared rosters can be accommodated. So if you plan on doing multiple teams which share players, fatten up your roster to head off problems. As always, team registration remains open through the tournament, and in this league you need play only one match to qualify for State, so captains can adjust on the fly if needed.
