Talking with Jody Rushton
Celebrating 100 Years of Women's Suffrage
|
|
2020 marks 100 years since the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which officially granted women the constitutional right to vote. It also marks the 100th year of women voting in Presidential elections. What better way to mark the occasion than by having a conversation with the immediate past president of the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW), Texas' own, Jody Rushton!
You're probably familiar with our TFRW tradition of incorporating the yellow rose. But do you know the story behind its symbolism? Listen to this week's Talking with TAD to learn the significance of yellow roses to the women's suffrage movement and why this year it's as important as ever to exercise this right for which women fought so hard.

On Monday, June 15, the Office of the First Lady Melania Trump
announced
the release of the
Building the Movement: America’s Youth Celebrate 100 Years of Women’s Suffrage
, an exhibit honoring the centennial anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment which gave American women the right to vote. The exhibit will launch this August (2020) and will showcase artwork by young Americans depicting this historic milestone. To create this exhibit, the First Lady is asking students in grades 3-12 from across the United States and its territories for submissions depicting individuals, objects, and events representing the women’s suffrage movement. One submitted artwork will be chosen from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, America Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The artwork will appear alongside images of women’s suffrage parades, marches, and gatherings that took place at or around the White House.
All applicants
will receive a thank you note signed by the First Lady, thanking them for their participation in this special exhibit honoring the women's suffrage movement.

Trump Victory Experiences Unmatched Enthusiasm After Tulsa Rally
Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel
said on
Thursday, that special elections prove "the ultimate poll is Election Day." This week, while the fake news media hoped to find validation for their questionable polling, Republicans in New York were celebrating a huge victory after Chris Jacobs won a special election on Tuesday for New York’s 27th District U.S. House seat by nearly 40 points. As a President Trump-endorsed Republican, Jacobs outperformed 2016 margins, showing that enthusiasm for Republican leadership is surging. President Trump won the district by 25 points in 2016, and in 2018, Republicans held onto the seat by less than half a point.
Jacob's impressive performance comes just a month after Republicans flipped a House seat in deep-blue Ventura County, California. That special election marked the first time Republicans flipped a House seat in California since 1998 - 22 years! Republican Mike Garcia won CA-25's vote by 12 points. In 2016, that same district voted for Clinton by 7 points.
