TAHU Updates from the Capitol
The Texas Department of Insurance has been hard at work recently, publishing proposed rules to implement several new laws passed by the Texas Legislature in the 2021 session. We will work with TAHU’s Legislative Council to review these proposals published on April 8 to consider drafting comments in support or opposition, and attend the Public Hearings where stakeholders will gather to discuss the drafts. Draft rules are available for review and feedback on the following new laws with public hearing dates for each listed here:
  • Creation of a statewide All Payor Claims Database (APCD) - May 4, 9:30 a.m.
  • State Rate Review for Health Benefit Plans - April 18, 2:00 p.m.
  • Provider Preauthorization Exemptions (known as “Gold Carding”) - May 12, 2:00 p.m.
  • Exemptions for Independent Review Organizations - no hearing scheduled

NAHU's Triple Crown Program

NAHU created the President's Triple Crown Program to recognize those members whose individual contributions to NAHU help advance the association's mission. Like baseball's Triple Crown, it recognizes accomplishments in three key areas. However, although baseball's Triple Crown hasn't been won since 2012. NAHU's Triple Crown can be won every year by hundreds of our members. To qualify for the Triple Crown, within the calendar year (01/01-12/31), a member must participate in:

  • HUPAC: Participate in $12 x 12 draft program or contribute $150 total for the year
  • Membership: Recruit two or more new members
  • Advocacy: Use Operation Shout to send three or more messages
