PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
Dear Members,

I hope everyone enjoyed their Independence Day weekend. Summer has arrived in full force. And with it, many people are traveling and facing numerous delays and cancelations along with the frustration that goes along with it. However, those that have a Travel Agent to rely upon have someone to go to bat for them in these dire circumstances. Hopefully they will always remember to book with us!

What a great turnout we had last month for our Barbados Tourist Board meeting which included a cocktail hour and several hoteliers.

Well this month is our postponed Cruise Night from March.
We are holding another cocktail hour along with a mini trade show of 7 suppliers (American Cruise, Carnival, Celebrity, MSC, NCL, Ponant & Windstar) Each be giving a short presentation to the membership during our meeting. Our installation of TASC officers has been moved to our September meeting. I hope to see another good turnout this month.

Remember, we do not hold a meeting in August so the next meeting after our July meeting is Sept 14th, where I am pleased to announce that we just signed Sandals and the Jamaica Tourist Board to present. Enjoy your summer!

Respectfully,
Susan Bonesso

The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.

Yellowstone National Park has reopened its flood-damaged north loop at noon on 7/2, in time for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
The announcement means most of the park will be open again after June 13 flooding closed America's first national park and forced 10,000 visitors to leave as water, rocks and mud washed out roads and bridges. The north loop includes Norris Junction, Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower-Roosevelt and Canyon Junction.
Visitors can enter the park via West Yellowstone, Montana; Cody, Wyoming; and south entrance near Jackson, Wyoming.
The north and northeast entrance gates at Gardiner and Cooke City remain closed and visitors cannot access the wildlife-rich Lamar Valley because flooding washed out roads in the area. Road repairs could take years, park officials have said.
The entire park was closed from June 14 to June 21 due to historic flooding that hit just as the summer tourist season was picking up in the park's 150th anniversary year.
The south loop -- which includes Old Faithful and other geysers, Yellowstone Lake and Hayden Valley -- reopened on June 22.
The backcountry in the northern part of the park will remain closed due to hazardous conditions or damaged trails and bridges. Most of the park's southern backcountry will be open to overnight use.

Air New Zealand plans to introduce the airline industry's first lie-flat economy beds in 2024. Called the Skynest, the bunks will be installed on new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. Those aircraft will serve ultralong-haul routes, such as Auckland-Chicago and the Auckland-New York JFK route that Air New Zealand will launch in September.
Specs revealed in 2020 showed that each Skynest pod would have two rows of three bunks. Bunks would have a length in excess of 6.5 feet and a width of two feet. Each bunk would be equipped with lighting designed for sleep.

The Norwegian Sun struck a small iceberg in Alaska on June 25, causing Norwegian Cruise Line to cut short the sailing and cancel the Sun's next cruise from Seattle. Guests who sailed on the June 21 sailing will receive a full refund for the voyage and a future cruise credit valued at 100% of the cruise fare.
Those scheduled to sail on June 30 will receive a full refund and a future cruise credit valued at 50% of the paid fare, plus $300 per person for airline cancellation or change fees.

WHY SOME AMERICANS SHOULD NEVER BE LET OUT THE COUNTRY
(Actual comments from US travel agents)

I had someone ask for an aisle seat so their hair wouldn't get messed up from being near the window.

A client called in inquiring about a package to Hawaii. After going over all the cost info, she asked, "Would it be cheaper to fly to California and then take the train to Hawaii?"

I got a call from a woman who wanted to go to Capetown. I started to explain the length of the flight and the passport information when she interrupted me with "I'm not trying to make you look stupid, but Capetown is in Massachusetts." Without trying to make her look like the stupid one, I calmly explained, "Cape Cod is in Massachusetts, Capetown is in Africa." Her response ... click.

A man called, furious about a Florida package we did. I asked what was wrong with the vacation in Orlando. He said he was expecting an ocean-view room. I tried to explain that is not possible, since Orlando is in the middle of the state. He replied, "Don't lie to me. I looked on the map and Florida is a very thin state."

I got a call from a man who asked, "Is it possible to see England from Canada?" I said, "No." He said, "But they look so close on the map."

Another man called and asked if he could rent a car in Dallas. When I pulled up the reservation, I noticed he had a 1-hour layover in Dallas. When I asked him why he wanted to rent a car, he said, "I heard Dallas was a big airport, and I need a car to drive between the gates to save time."

A nice lady just called. She needed to know how it was possible that her flight from Detroit left at 8:20am and got into Chicago at 8:33am. I tried to explain that Michigan was an hour ahead of Illinois, but she could not understand. Finally, I told her the plane went very fast, and she bought that!
