New CDC Slide Set: Introduction to Tuberculosis

This slide set is meant to be a tool for people who are not familiar with TB. It provides a basic overview of TB using plain language and visual aids. Unlike the other CDC/DTBE slide sets which are often directed at those working in TB, this slide set is designed for a general public audience. Access here.

TB Elimination Alliance Accepting Mini-Grant Proposals

The TB Elimination Alliance is offering Mini-Grants to organizations serving Asian American (AA), Native Hawaiian (NH), and Pacific Islander (PI) communities that are disproportionately impacted by LTBI and/or TB. Up to 15 awards will be provided to selected organizations. Each award amount will be between $8,000 and $12,000. The application deadline will be May 7, 2021 by 5:00 p.m. local time. Apply here.

For LHJs: King County Pharmacy Staff Shortage

The pharmacy continues to be short staffed and this may mean longer TB medication order processing times. We are asking LHJs to plan for delays to last until the end of May. King County is working with the pharmacy to identify workarounds and ways to support the pharmacy until staff return. Please review your TB medications supplies compared to your patients' coming needs.

  • Plan your patient TB medication needs a few weeks to a month in advance.
  • Place your order as soon as possible to allow the pharmacy staff time to process and ship your medications.
  • If you have an urgent need, please reach out to the State TB Program and we will coordinate with the pharmacy. Call (206) 418-5500 or email TBServices@doh.wa.gov

For LHJs: HRSA 340B Recertification for TB Medications

During this HRSA 340B recertification period (May 3-June 7, 2021) all of Washington's Local Health Jurisdictions (LHJs) will be recertified by the WA DOH TB program. This annual recertification allows our LHJs to receive TB medications under this federal 340B drug pricing program.

The DOH STD program has been going through revisions to better meet HRSA requirements. Due to COVID, the TB program postponed going through similar changes. Many of the processes and/or policies created for the LHJ's STD programs may actually be close to what the TB Program also needs, hopefully saving some time and work. The WA DOH TB Program will give the LHJs plenty of notice and instruction regarding any changes and what is needed. If you have questions, please contact tbservices@doh.wa.gov
