JUNE 2017

Summer Nights!!
by Pastor Paul Brown

They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles. And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved. (Acts 2:42-47 - NASB95)
This description of the early church in Acts 2 has always been such an encouragement to me. I imagine them meeting with joy and excitement as God moved in mighty ways in their midst. I am asking the Lord to do great things in our midst this summer when we gather together on Wednesday nights (June 14th - July 26th). It will be a wonderful opportunity to have people of all ages together for a barbecue dinner and then have age-appropriate instruction from God's Word the rest of the evening. There is a fantastic program in place for the children, and the youth will be able to join the adults to hear great preaching from some local pastors and teachers. And we can all invite unchurched friends to join us!
The Lord has blessed His church with a lot of great teachers. This summer I have invited some people that I know and trust to come and teach us on Wednesday nights. They are all excellent communicators and I am asking them to deliver the message they are most passionate about. We will be profoundly challenged and encouraged as we listen to these gifted teachers speak on issues from abortion to evangelism to the power of the gospel in our daily lives to marriage and parenting. You won't want to miss a single week!
Then to finish the summer we will have a special Family Fun Night on Wednesday, August 2nd. There will be a barbecue, games and activities for all ages, and a concert for all ages featuring fun summer music. That evening we will also have an Open House for people to take tours of our radically renovated Children's Ministry Building ("Bridge Kids").
Please plan now to be with us every Wednesday night and invite as many friends as you possibly can. Get the word out on social media and pray for the Lord to move in mighty ways in the lives of all who come. I look forward to this summer and spending Wednesday nights with all of you!
Randy's Top 10 List
by Pastor Randy Leinen

Please read through all 10 of these amazing truths from the Bible that you may never before have understood.

1.  It's in the Bible. In the Old Testament Law, God commanded families to give back one-tenth (10%), a tithe, to the Lord. But this was not a new practice. Abraham tithed in Genesis 14:19-20. Jacob tithed in Genesis 28:20-22. In Matthew 23:23, Jesus rebuked the Pharisees saying about tithes, "These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others (meaning justice and mercy)." The concept of giving at least 10% is littered throughout the Bible.

2.  It honors God. Jacob said to the Lord, "And of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you." Jacob understood that all that he received was from the Lord. He gave a full 10% back to God to honor Him for life's provisions. Do we fully recognize and honor God for His provisions?

3.  It demonstrates that we love God. John says, "See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God." (1 John 3:1) Imagine that God has loved you so much that He was willing to send His only Son to die in your place, so that you could become one of His children, forever! What is a response of love in return? Obedience. Generosity! When we give financially (even sacrificially) to the work of His kingdom, we are demonstrating our love for Him.

4.  It shows that we care about Jesus' Bride, the Church. Sometimes I think we forget that the church is not some building or corporate institution. It is the greatest organization in world history! It is the Bride of Jesus Christ. In Ephesians 5, it says that Jesus loved, cherished and sacrificed Himself for His Bride (the church). When we give to support the ministries and growth of the church we show that we care for Jesus' most prized possession - His Bride!

5.  It is an evidence that we trust God to be our provider. At the end of Matthew 6, Jesus explains that the ungodly run around like crazy trying to take care of themselves financially. He then says that the Father knows that we need things to survive. But then Jesus releases them from worry by getting their focus in the right place - "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you ." (Matthew 6:33) When we give to God's work, even when we don't know how we're going to make it, we show faith that God will provide. And He will!

6.  It will help us guard against the evil of loving money. Paul, exhorted Timothy to instruct believers in the church (kind of like I'm doing now) to be warned about riches. Rich people tend to be hoarders. Paul gives this great warning in 1 Timothy 6:9-10, "But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." When we give generously and faithfully it helps us to remember not to fall into the temptations that lead to bad things!

7.  We will have the joy of seeing God's kingdom advance due to our generosity. One of the greatest joys that I have experienced in life is seeing people's lives changed here at TBBF and around the world. I know that in a small way Susan and I have contributed to this by tithing to TBBF regularly, and by supporting missionaries beyond that. It is impossible to know exactly the eternal impact of those resources, but I expect that it is infinitely more than the monetary value that we have given. And what have we given, anyway? Only that which God gave us in the first place! So, God still gets all the glory!

8.  It will reinforce the virtue of living within our means. Sometimes giving 10%+ is hard. Life hits us with unexpected expenses. During some months finances are tight. But we make our tithes and missionary offerings our first priority. This life principle that guides us forces us to be careful to live within our means. And we're definitely not perfect at this, but it also helps us to stay away from the pitfalls of debt.

9.  God will reward us with blessings in this life. Here are two great passages that I am convinced teach principles of how God rewards those who tithe. Proverbs 3:9-10, "Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine." And Malachi 3:10-12, "Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts." I can testify to the Lord's faithfulness in this. Have you experienced this too?

10.  God will reward us with blessings that will last for all of eternity. We all want a good return on our investment. How about this kind of return? Someone gives you their resources, you invest 10% of what they gave you, and then you get an amazing return to keep that lasts forever! That's what happens when God gives what He owns to us, we give Him back 10%+, and this then accumulates as a credit to us in eternity. Where does the Bible teach this? Matthew 6:19-20, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal."

These are just 10 reasons to financially give back to the Lord that I came up with quickly. Each one of these could be a sermon. Maybe Paul will do a series on this sometime. If you are not experiencing the blessing of tithing, forgive me for being a little direct, but please stop wasting what God has given to you. God will bless in ways that you cannot imagine.

Worship Ministries Is NOT Taking a Vacation!
by Pastor Steve Lively

This summer, our Worship Ministry will continue to be very active. Here are some events and activities you may want to participate in.

1. Our Regular Sunday Worship services will  continue, providing a constant opportunity for you to worship with the rest of the Body of Christ here at TBBF. If you're going to be in town, please plan on being a faithful attender.

2. We will have 2 special concerts
Our traditional   Patriotic Celebration , featuring the Santa Clarita Concert Band, will take place  on Sunday  evening, July 2, at 6:00 PM  in the Worship Center. Our own Tim Durand is the director and, along with our Drama ministry, Innermission, they will present the familiar songs and stories of our amazing history and how God has blessed us. Refreshments will follow in the Bridge Cafe. The concert is free. Be sure to invite friends.
Our  "End of The Summer Party" will take place on Wednesday evening, August 2. It will feature great food, fun activities for the whole family, and a concert of oldies featuring the music of the Beatles, Beach Boys and others, by the Livedog Band. The event starts at 5:30 and again is a great opportunity to invite friends.

3. We will be having our  "Christmas In July" event again, where anyone who is interested in being a part of our  Adult Choir this year can get a preview of the music we will be presenting. There will also be great fellowship and refreshments. It will be held in the Worship Center on  Tuesday, July 25, from 7-9 PM. Then, we will set up an audition for anyone who is still interested before we start regular Tuesday rehearsals in late August. Hope to see many of you there!

4. Consider being a part of our other Worship ministries for the Summer:
Our  LoveShare Ministry meets every  Monday at 9:00 AM and then goes and visits our shut-ins. What a great opportunity to encourage these dear members of our congregation. We have sometimes had whole families go as a group. Contact John and Arlene Benson if you would like to get involved,  818-345-2170.
Our Ushers could really use some new folks to be involved. This would be a great time for ladies and Youth to give it try, too. Perhaps you could volunteer for just a couple of Sundays during the Summer to check it out. Contact our Head Usher, Rick Skalma, at  818-667-4761 if you are interested.
The Bridge Cafe is always in need of folks to help set up and tear down as they serve breakfast every Sunday. Again, perhaps you could sign up for just a couple of weeks this Summer. Call or text our Bridge Cafe Manager, Briana Steadman at  818-703-3801.

You see, there will be a lot of chances for you to continue to worship this Summer. Pray about what the Lord would have you do. Looking forward to seeing you a lot!
