MAY 2017

by Pastor Paul Brown

The " Church of the Nativity " was originally commissioned to be built in 327A.D. by Constantine the Great and his mother Helena over the site that was traditionally considered to be the cave that marks the birthplace of Jesus. It was completed in 339 and destroyed by fire in the 6th century. A new basilica was built in 565 by the Byzantine Emperor, Justinian. There have been numerous additions since this second construction, including its prominent bell towers. It is considered one of the oldest churches in the world that continues to have worship services which now occur daily. If you go with us to Israel in December 2018 - January 2019 you will see this historic site!

Although not quite that old, The Bridge Bible Fellowship (aka, Reseda First Baptist & Heart of the Valley), has been serving the San Fernando Valley and the world now for 75 years! In 1942, this church was planted by people from Van Nuys First Baptist and it has been faithfully worshiping God, proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, preaching & teaching the Word, making disciples, and sending out missionaries all over the world. Millions of lives have been impacted over the past 75 years of faithful ministry.

I don't know about you, but I love to CELEBRATE. And I especially love to celebrate the faithfulness of God and His people. That is why we are going to have a huge celebration the first weekend in June. On Friday night, June 2nd, we will have a banquet and take the evening to LOOK BACK at the faithfulness of God and His people over the past 75 years. We will look at the commitment and sacrifices of those that have gone before us. We will give God praise for the work that has been done and the lives that have been changed. A former pastoral staff member & missionary of the church, Mike Gaston, will be the emcee that night as we reflect and celebrate. There will be photos, videos, special music, testimonies, etc., highlighting the work that has been done for the glory of God. You will be encouraged and challenged by all that has been accomplished and will come to realize as I have, that we truly are here today standing on the shoulders of spiritual giants! People who trusted God to do far more abundantly beyond all they could ask or think (Eph. 3:20).

Then on Sunday morning, June 4th, we will continue to celebrate as we LOOK FORWARD to what God has ahead for our church. We will share a vision for the future and how we can all participate in seeing that vision come to fruition. It is my desire to learn from those who went before us, and serve and sacrifice as they did, so we can hand this church off to future generations who will continue in faithful ministry for the next 75 years. I want to see this church have an even greater impact on Reseda, Los Angeles, California, the U.S., and the world in the next 75 years than it has in the past 75 years. I want to honor those who went before us by sacrificing as they did so future generations might know and love and serve the Lord.

So please mark out that weekend and join us as we celebrate the Faithfulness of God and His people. Then pray about your part in the on-going ministry of this church to the world. May God be pleased to use us as He has used those who have gone before us. To Him alone be all glory and honor and praise!
Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith. (Hebrews 13:7 - NLT)
Randy's Top 10 List
by Pastor Randy Leinen

This month's top 10 list has to do with money, specifically, your money. Without your tithes much of the operation of The Bridge Bible Fellowship would not be possible. Because of that, I thought it might be helpful to list some of the main areas where your generosity towards the Lord is used in the body of Christ. So here is my top 10 list for May, in no particular order.

1. World Missions: Support for over 25 missionaries who are working all over the world, including every continent. Shepherding the Nations is our own homegrown missions agency which has trained 70+ pastors, and is currently training another 300.

2. Evangelism & Outreach: Local events and materials are used to reach out into our local community. This includes church planting support for Christ Bible Church (here in SFV), Ambassador Bible Fellowship (in Idaho), and the EFCA denomination. Other ministries such as our Homeschool Co-op, Bible Study Fellowship, and Child Evangelism Fellowship are also supported.

3. Facilities:  Although our property is debt free, it takes significant financial resources to properly maintain the largest single property in Reseda. Over the last two years, we have been performing major renovations all over the campus, and we continue to do so.

4. Technology:  In a world that increasingly relies on technology, we try to use it wisely for the advancement of God's Kingdom. Campus-wide wifi and classroom technology is more readily available now than prior to this year.

5. Adult Ministries: From English to Hispanic, from College age to Seniors, from Men to Women, ABC classes to Life Groups, and Worship to counseling, we have so many different adult ministries that are supported.

6. Youth and Children's Ministries: We are teaching and supporting the next generation of Christ-followers in our Bridge Youth and Bridge Kids ministries.

7. Administration & Communication:  With over 1,000 people who regularly attend our multi-lingual congregation, many resources are dedicated to coordinating and communicating with everyone.

8. Ministry Staff:  We have various staff who serve in ministries from worship, to children, to youth, to hospitality and more.

9. Facility & Administrative Staff: We have very gifted and dedicated facility & administrative staff who handle everything from facility maintenance, to secretarial work, to financial management, to tech support, to communications, to counseling, to organization, providing general helpfulness to the body of Christ.

10. Pastoral Staff:  We who serve in this capacity are so privileged to be able to serve all of you in full-time ministry.

I want to thank all of you who so generously contribute financially with your regular tithes and other financial gifts. The Lord uses your generosity to advance His kingdom through The Bridge Bible Fellowship and beyond.
News from Bridge Youth

Jimmy and I have been very excited about all that God is doing in youth ministry. We had a great time at Pine Summit in Big Bear for our youth winter camp in the beginning of March. God did a great work in the lives of students and volunteers that weekend. We have continued to see God strengthening the relationships between staff and students within the youth ministry and we are excited to continue to develop deeper relationships with students where discipleship can happen naturally.

We recently had a service day for our youth where six teams of students and staff spread out in the valley and spent a few hours doing yard work for various members of our church. It was a wonderful time to be able to serve members of our church.

We would love prayer for our beach baptism night in May. Please pray that God would put it on the hearts and minds of students to be baptized if they have truly believed on Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Lastly, please pray that God would continue to provide Jimmy and me with wisdom and strength to lead the youth ministry and honor the Lord in all things.
