A Message from Cantor Dunkerley
High Holy Days 5786
Together in Tradition, United in Community
Dearest Temple B’nai Chaim Family and Friends,
As we approach the High Holy Days, I invite you to allow the sound of the shofar to begin to stir something deep within. It is at once a wake-up call, a cry from the heart, and a reminder that we are part of a story much larger than ourselves.
These coming Days of Awe invite us to look honestly at our lives — the places where we have missed the mark, the connections in our closest relationships, areas where we may have fallen short, and the ways in which we feel broken, or incomplete. Yet the same season also offers us a sacred pathway back toward shalem — toward wholeness, healing, and peace – T’shuvah. The journey from the first notes of tekiah to the closing blast of tekiah gedolah is not only ritual; it is our people’s yearly practice of moving from fracture to fullness, of returning to the best version of ourselves, of coming home.
May the prayers we lift, the songs we sing, and the community we create together over the coming weeks help guide each of us from brokenness toward shalem, from questioning to certainty, from places of darkness or doubt to great light and possibility. And may the new year bring with it blessing, sweetness, and strength to us all.
Shanah Tovah u’Metukah – a Good and Sweet 5786 to all!
