High Holy Days 5786

Together in Tradition, United in Community

Dearest Temple B’nai Chaim Family and Friends,

As we approach the High Holy Days, I invite you to allow the sound of the shofar to begin to stir something deep within. It is at once a wake-up call, a cry from the heart, and a reminder that we are part of a story much larger than ourselves.

These coming Days of Awe invite us to look honestly at our lives — the places where we have missed the mark, the connections in our closest relationships, areas where we may have fallen short, and the ways in which we feel broken, or incomplete. Yet the same season also offers us a sacred pathway back toward shalem — toward wholeness, healing, and peace – T’shuvah. The journey from the first notes of tekiah to the closing blast of tekiah gedolah is not only ritual; it is our people’s yearly practice of moving from fracture to fullness, of returning to the best version of ourselves, of coming home.

May the prayers we lift, the songs we sing, and the community we create together over the coming weeks help guide each of us from brokenness toward shalem, from questioning to certainty, from places of darkness or doubt to great light and possibility. And may the new year bring with it blessing, sweetness, and strength to us all.

Shanah Tovah u’Metukah – a Good and Sweet 5786 to all!

Cantor Harriet Dunkerley

A Message from our

Co President's,

Allie Berger Rabinowitz & Jessica Diskin Evans

The High Holy Days are near, and we’re excited to come together for reflection, celebration, and connection. Inside this issue of Connections, you’ll find your complete High Holy Day Guide — including service schedules and a full range of programs organized by our clergy and leadership.

This year is especially meaningful. As new co-presidents, we’re honored to help lead TBC into its 50th anniversary — a milestone worth celebrating. Join us for our next event: a complimentary Yom Kippur Break Fast.

It’s also a pivotal moment for TBC’s future. As we shape what comes next, your participation and support are vital. Our upcoming agreement with the JCC will ensure a sustainable future for TBC — but we need your generosity now to help bridge the gap. And thanks to a generous donor, all contributions will be matched at 20% — making your gift go even further. Honey Order Form 2025

As we celebrate our 50th Rosh Hashanah as a congregation, it’s time to send sweet New Year wishes with TBC’s Rosh Hashanah Honey!

Support TBC and share the love—send honey and appreciation to TBC friends, family, clergy, and staff. Order by September 13—don’t miss out!

Proceeds from this annual fundraiser help support our congregation’s expenses. As in past years, TBC members can choose from several sponsorship levels. Each level includes sending one jar of local honey to every TBC member family, clergy, and staff:

  • Super Bee Hive – $1,080
  • Chai Bee Hive – $540
  • B’nai Bee Hive – $360
  • Honey Bee Hive – $180

You can also choose to send individual jars to specific TBC members, clergy, or staff—or return the gesture to those who send honey to you. It’s a thoughtful way to say "thank you," especially to religious school teachers and tutors. The first jar is $12, and each additional jar is $8.

Our honey comes from the Bee Love Project, a cooperative of local beekeepers dedicated to supporting bees and promoting environmental sustainability. Click here to order online

Questions? Email us at honey@templebnaichaim.org.

Shanah Tovah and Thank you for your support of Sisterhood!

Memorial Book

TBC will again publish an online Memorial Book with the names of all loved ones whom you wish to memorialize at the Yizkor Service on Yom Kippur. You should have received a letter with the list of names that will be listed. If you would like to add or delete names, please contact the office with any changes. A PDF version of the Memorial Book will be available to anyone who contacts the office to request one at officeadmin@templebnaichaim.org.

Tikkun Olam- Repairing the World

In this most challenging time - We all need to pitch in!

Check out Chailites for upcoming calls to action.

The desire to take action to make the world a better place is the only requirement for participation in the Social Action Committee. From the smallest job to the most complex, each act of kindness and caring makes a huge impact on achieving social justice and equity. This year we will work on policies at all levels that would help repair the world.
