Christ is Risen, Christ is Risen Indeed!

What a wonderful experience we had on Easter Sunday! There were 75 attending at Sunrise and 415 at Morning Worship, 30 of those came up for Children’s Time. The return of Coffee Fellowship was exciting for all. The risen Christ’s presence was evident among us Easter morning.

Easter is not simply one day but it is a season that will last until Pentecost, June 5. The scripture lessons will call us to understand what it means for our lives that Christ is Risen, Christ is Risen Indeed! Hope you will join with us Sunday.

In Christ’s Service,
Dr. Jim C. Dunkin

NURSERY ASSISTANCE NEEDED!

Want to help out the preschool?

Do you like holding babies or watching toddlers for an hour or so? Two of our preschool classes will be having Mother's Day Teas on Monday, May 9th and we need some volunteers to be in the nursery to keep the siblings so that the mother's can have some one-on-one time with their preschooler. Think about what this gift would mean to these mothers. An hour to spend with one child, giving them their full attention!

If you are interested and available, please email Barbara. She will give you all the details of when to be here and how many children will be in the nursery during the Mother's Day Tea. What better way to help bridge the preschool with the church than by watching children for an hour or so! Thanks in advance!
SUNDAY PARK FOOD PANTRY

This mission requires many hands to help each week. Please click here to volunteer. If you have questions, please email Dale Gentz or call (804) 317-7554.

MEDICAL MISSION TRIP

“Honduras is Calling and We Must Go.” Friends of Barnabas (FOB) has resumed sending teams to provide medical/dental care to five mountain villages each month. Also needed are Gerber Organic Flatfold Birdseye cloth baby diapers and pins (order on line and turn in by June 12th) to send down in advance. Designate “FOB or Honduras” on your check made payable to
The Brandermill Church. Your support through contributions and prayers is encouraged and much appreciated.

DISCIPLESHIP HOUR ON SUNDAY MORNINGS

Beginning on May 1st, there will be two opportunities for Adult Discipleship on Sunday mornings. The Current Events class (which currently meets) will continue to meet in a hybrid format, some in the Multipurpose Room and some online via Zoom. They use The Wired Word Curriculum in which each lesson includes biblical commentary and discussion questions related to a topic in that week's news. The lesson is printed each Thursday in the eNews with a link for the Zoom session. Class members sign up to facilitate each week. Lessons are organized into seven sections:

  • A Teacher Introduction to the lesson
  • In the News summary of a current event
  • Big Questions for consideration or discussion about the topic
  • Scripture references to help confront the news with hope
  • Additional group Discussion Questions
  • Suggestions for Responding to the News
  • A Closing Prayer

Join us this week as Debbie Marchese will lead the class discussion.
Click here for this week's lesson.

------------------------------------------------

The second option is the Adult Bible Study class which will meet in the Conference Room each Sunday morning. Steve Begg will lead this class in a study of the Book of James using N.T. Wright's study guide. This class is more lecture style however Steve will ask questions to draw each participant into the lesson.

Both of these Discipleship opportunities begin at 9 a.m. and will be finished in time for Coffee Fellowship at 10 a.m. All are welcome to join either class. Please contact Barbara for more information.
THURSDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY

The Thursday Morning Bible Study class is studying the Book of Ecclesiastes. This book has 12 chapters in it and we will be going verse by verse looking at one chapter each week. All are welcome to join with us, either in person or on Zoom, as we continue our hybrid format. We meet beginning at 10 a.m. each Thursday morning. Please contact Barbara to be put on the mailing list for the questions each week.
365 DAY BIBLE READING

Congratulations to everyone who was able to complete the TBC challenge of reading the Bible cover to cover last year! For those that may still be working their way through, we will continue to publish the weekly schedule this year!

Click here for next week's reading chart.
ONLINE WORSHIP

If you are unable to join us in-person for worship in our Sanctuary, remember that we are also live streaming the service at 10:30 AM. By clicking on the YouTube logo, you'll go directly to our channel!

Remember, you can always revisit any of our services on YouTube to listen again to a sermon, an anthem, a scripture reading, or any other part of a service that you'd like to hear again.
GETTING YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER

The Getting Your House in Order task group is preparing materials to present in the fall on ways to be prepared for your last days. Information about legal documents, end of life care, funeral/memorial preparations, etc. is being compiled at this time. We are looking for speakers who would be willing to present information, not a sales pitch, and answer a few questions for the participants. If you have had a wonderful experience with a lawyer, estate planner, funeral director, Hospice worker, etc. that you believe we should get in touch with, please contact Barbara.
BLOOD DRIVE

There are many ways you can make a difference and save lives. Did you know . . .

  • Blood from one donation can be divided into two components: red blood cells and plasma.
  • The average adult has about 10 pints of blood, but a typical whole-blood donation is only 1 pint.
  • Red blood cells have a short shelf life. They only last for 6 weeks (42 days).
  • Donating whole blood takes only about 10-15 minutes.
  • You can donate whole blood every 56 days!

Make a difference! Help save lives!
Sunday, May 22nd from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. here at TBC, in the multipurpose room.
