Mitzvah Moments - March 2019
Your monthly news & updates
on how you can Tikkun Olam
Dear TBE Tikkun Olam Community,

With 2019 in full swing, and 5779 at the mid-way point, how are you doing on your WORD that you chose for this year? March may be the perfect time to check in on your intentions, recommit or double-down.

March is also always a rich month at TBE for Tikkun Olam programming. As you can see below we have many opportunities this month to make a meaningful impact in people's lives -- whether through donations, direct service, advocacy, or simply positive engagement. There are also several opportunities to join as a community to learn and grow together through introspection, conversation and collective consciousness.

In addition to our ongoing initiatives and programming, I want to invite you to our "Tikkun Olam Conversation" on March 6 at 7pm. We will be facilitating a conversation with our Tikkun Olam leaders to help shape what "repairing the world" looks like at TBE. Your voices and leadership are pivotal to shaping our direction and building capacity for our initiatives. Feel free to email me or Sandy if you have questions or plan to attend.

With gratitude for all that you do in support of Tikkun Olam at TBE and beyond. We are stronger together as a result of your leadership and engagement.

L'shalom,

Julie

Yad Chessed
Yad Chessed, which means “hand of loving kindness,” helps Jewish families and individuals in need. Their mission is to provide emergency financial assistance while working to preserve the dignity of each individual client. The money they provide for basic needs – such as food, clothing, shelter and utilities – gives people in need security and allows them to get back on track.

Community members are invited to bring grocery store gift cards to support Yad Chessed. Gift cards should be in standard amounts ($10, $25, $50, etc) and should be for the following grocery stores: Shaws, Market Basket, Stop and Shop, Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods. Donate in our Tzedakah Box in the atrium!

Learn more about Yad Chessed and this important Purim mitzvah from TBE member Janet Goldenberg at the link!

What are Mitzvah Moments?
This Mitzvah Moments monthly e-newsletter provides a monthly snapshot of upcoming Tikkun Olam events, with links to more information. The goal of the newsletter is to improve communication, lift awareness of Tikkun Olam events and provide opportunities for the TBE community to come together throughout the year to combine community, compassion and connection.

The ultimate goal of Tikkun Olam at TBE is to provide integrated “Mitzvah Moments” throughout the year which enable the whole temple community to participate in direct service opportunities, education about social justice, and/or collection drives—thereby linking our Jewish values to the act of doing/serving, compassionate giving, and affecting change—in ourselves and in the world around us.
