Happy

 Passover

LET MY PEOPLE EAT ICE CREAM!

Why was this Passover Seder different from all others? At all other seders, a Hillel sandwich is not an ice cream sandwich. At all other seders, we drink four cups of wine, not four milkshakes. Tuesday's Ice Cream Seder for Religious School students, like March 30's Miriam Seder, set the table for this weekend's arrival of Passover.

Saturday, April 12

Passover begins at sundown.

Have a great seder!

Family Shabbat

Join Rabbi Helayne Shalhevet and Cantor Lisa Ann Wharton at 7:30 p.m. Friday to welcome Shabbat. Joining them on the bimah will be trustee Erwin Fox, who is adopting this Shabbat with his wife, Donna.

IN THE TORAH

Torah Portion:  Tzav, Leviticus 6:1-8:36

Moses appoints Aaron and Aaron’s sons as priests, Kohanim. A description of the sacrifices to be offered in the ancient sanctuary continues. The Israelites are told that the fire on the altar must be kept burning at all times. Eventually, this becomes today’s eternal light over the ark.

What do we learn from this portion? Sacrifice, prayer and worship are not one-time things; we must keep the flame burning to have a true and complete experience of them.

— Rabbi Helayne Shalhevet

Will you help us bring more guest musicians to Temple Beth Emeth?

I WANT TO HELP

All you need is love — unless, of course, you're trying to hire a band for a Beatles Shabbat. To do that, TBE needs a little help from its friends. That's why we've been asking all of you for donations to the Cantor's Discretionary Fund, and many of you have done just that over the past two weeks. It's the only way Cantor Wharton can continue to draw on her network of musical friends to bring gifted musical guests like Sephardi cantor Hazzan Star Wahnon to TBE. Please click the "I WANT TO HELP" button to make an online donation of however much you can give. Every dollar will go toward bringing guest musicians to some of our monthly Music Shabbat services.

Temple family news

BY JOAN PERRIN

Mazel tov to Laura Mulhare and her family on the bar mitzvah of her son Jacob last Saturday.

Apologies to the congregants left off last week's April birthday list. Yom huledet sameach to Sheila Barash, Barbra Dreyfus, Alyson Grossman, Leslie and Josh Millrod, Jacob Mulhare, Rachel Ndembera, Ethan Schneider and Jeff Stein and to Carolyn Sofia, whose name was misspelled in last week's column.

Please email Joan Perrin at perrinjoan@aol.com with any special news you'd like to share with your temple family. She'd like to pass along your birthdays, anniversaries, new jobs, retirements, family milestones, requests for healing and news of personal losses.

Can you adopt a Shabbat?

It can mean so much more than volunteering to host an oneg. Bring the family together to celebrate a simcha or honor a loved one. If you haven't reserved a 2025 date yet, send an email to Marcia Grossman at shoelady27@aol.com. We have no families signed up yet for May 30, June  27, July 11, 18, 25 and every Friday in Auguest.

Israel Shabbat

What’s YOUR Israel Story?

This year, as we celebrate Israeli Independence Day at our April 25 Shabbat service, we want to hear from you. Have you been to Israel and have a story to share? What was your favorite place, your favorite experience? Did you bring something home that you love and know we’d love to hear the story of, too? We are looking for a few people to speak for 1-2 minutes each that Friday night so we can add your Israel story to ours.

If you are interested in sharing a few words about your Israel experience, reach out to Rabbi Shalhevet at RabbiShalhevet@tbemtsinai.org.

Who's your Jewish American hero?

Our May 9 Shabbat service will focus on Jewish Americans who have made important contributions to society. During that service, would you be willing to speak for no more than five minutes about an important Jewish American? If you have someone in mind or would like a suggestion, please reach out to Jay Zuckerman at joanjayz@netscape.net
