Hello Families and Discipuli!
Greetings from the Counseling Office!
We are so excited to continue our series of counseling workshops as the semester goes on. This week, our Class III discipuli learned more about their learning styles and ways that they can best study given their particular style. So today's tip provides even more information about three of the many different learning styles and ways that you can study for each style!
Visual learners - They like to picture and visualize images for what they learn. STUDY TIP: Try to draw a diagram or sketch a concept when trying to memorize or retain it.
Auditory learners - They like to hear information and listen to an explanation more than they like to read or see it. STUDY TIP: Try repeating concepts out loud or watching videos related to the concept when trying to understand it.
Kinesthetic learners - They like to learn by doing and feel best when they are active and engaged. STUDY TIP: Try to do something else while studying so that you keep moving. Tap a pencil, squeeze a stress ball (but don't get too distracted) and take frequent breaks to get your energy out!
Remember, people can sometimes be a combination of different learning styles, so don't be afraid to try different techniques to studying to see what works!
Have a great weekend and happy studying!
Sincerely,
Ms. Teslik and Ms. McCaughey

2016 Symposium NY Conference
March 28th
@
Columbia University
Symposium is committed to broadening its influence right here in New York City. As the head of Symposium NY program, I am currently working with my team members to put together a one-day conference on March 28th for high school students in New York City area. During the conference, high school students will participate in student-led seminars that explore various topics related to liberal art, through reading important texts and engaging in discussions. One important focus of the conference is promoting cross-cultural understanding, which we plan to achieve by putting Eastern texts in conversation with the Western canon. We are convinced that the conference will introduce to high school students a new, interactive learning experience who likely have no prior exposure to this kind of intellectual discourse. This conference will also be a preview of our long-term project of hosting bi-weekly seminars on Columbia campus. Below you will find more information regarding Symposium New York conference and the RSVP form for students who wish to participate in the conference.
Once again, the conference will be on March 28th and will take place on Columbia University campus. The event is completely free and open to all high school students in New York City. We are thrilled about this upcoming conference and we hope that you share our enthusiasm! If this sounds like a worthwhile opportunity, we would encourage you to share information about the conference with your students. I would also be more than happy to provide you with more information and answer any of your concerns. Thank you so much for your time!
