TBLS Vox January 23, 2024 Edition | |
-
January Academy: Starting today, Tuesday, January 23rd through Thursday, January 25th, students who are not on track to pass 1 or more classes will attend school to work with their teaching magistri, do make-up work to bring their work to passing (if that’s still mathematically possible), and get ready for the spring semester.
- The families of all students mandated to attend January Academy received an email on Friday, January 19th from Mr. Yee.
-
Note that this program is only to bring grades from failing (below 65%) to passing (65%). The last day of the semester was yesterday, Monday, January 22nd.
- Students need to arrive by 8:20 a.m. every day of January Academy, and they dismiss at 1:06 p.m. They cannot leave early unless they go through our normal early-dismissal procedure.
- Lunch is not served, but students may bring snacks. Uniform is required.
- If your child believes they are finished with January Academy make-up work, their teacher must email Mr. Yee to confirm they are done. At this point, they will be excused from the remaining days of January Academy.
-
January Regents: We will administer the Algebra I regents to class II students who did not take this exam in middle school on Wednesday, January 24, 1:15 - 4:15 pm. All students for whom this applies have been notified. If you think this applies to your child and you have not been notified, please contact Mr. Yee at wyee@brooklynlatin.org.
-
Other activities this week: Besides January Academy, we have a lot of other things going on. There are IB oral exams, lab make-ups, and more.
- Students who need to attend these other appointments have been informed by their teaching magistri.
- For non-January appointments, students do not need to arrive at 8:20 a.m. and leave at 1:06 p.m. Instead, they can come to school before their appointment and then leave when it is finished.

New! TBLS Help Directory
In response to Parents Association feedback, the TBLS team has created a directory organized by common family needs at school. We hope this can provide answers to the question: “Who can help me with ____?” See the document here.

NOTICE: SLT Election for a Parent Member
(Term through June 2025) at the February PA General Meeting, Wednesday, February 14th, 6:30-8pm.
- The School Leadership Team includes three parent/guardian members who are elected for two-year terms; one has resigned and we will hold an election at the February PA General Membership Meeting to fill the remainder of that term.
- SLT Parent Members attend monthly SLT meetings to discuss and agree on the school’s comprehensive education plan (CEP) and other school policies, goals, and issues.
- Because SLT Parent Members represent all TBLS parents and guardians, they are encouraged to attend all PA Executive Board and General Membership meetings (a total of 2-3 hours each month) and to find other ways to communicate with parents and guardians to best represent them on the SLT.
- Estimated time commitment: Approximately 2 hours are required per month. In addition to the monthly time estimate, SLT members may need to spend two to three hours each year reviewing the CEP.
