Salvete omnes,
Welcome back to another exciting school year at The Brooklyn Latin School. I hope this message finds you all in good health and high spirits. As we come together for another school year, I want to extend my warmest greetings to both new and returning families. It is truly an honor to serve as your Headmaster/Principal and be a part of this vibrant community. Parents and guardians, we value your partnership and recognize the crucial role you play in your child's educational journey. I encourage you to maintain open lines of communication with our staff, as we work together to ensure your child's success.
At The Brooklyn Latin School, we believe in fostering a culture of inclusivity, respect and empathy. We celebrate our diversity and understand that our differences make us better as a community. Let us create an environment where everyone feels valued, sate and supported together. Our dedicated staff will continue to provide ample opportunities for your child to grow academically, emotionally and socially. High school is a time of exploration and self-discovery, where discipuli can uncover their passions and develop skills that will shape their future. Allow them to take advantage of the diverse array of opportunities, extracurricular activities, and clubs we offer to help find their place and pursue their interest.
I also wanted to update you about two teacher vacancies and what to expect if your student is in these classes. First, Ms. Koppa (IB Biology 2 SL for 12th grade) is on parental leave until the first week of December. We are in the process of securing a qualified long term substitute and will update you when that teacher starts with the class. Second, unfortunately we found out last week that Ms. La Peter, a newly hired Latin teacher scheduled to teach Latin 1 (9th grade) and Latin 2 (10 grade), is not able to join our community due to a personal matter. We are actively seeking a replacement Latin teacher and will continue to update you. This week, a temporary substitute will be with these classes and provide lesson materials from our department team. I will continue to update you about the status of our search. If you have questions about your student’s teacher, please reach out to Assistant Headmaster Hill at mhill@brooklynlatin.org
Last week we began transitioning students from their Brooklyn Latin email accounts to the NYCStudents.net accounts they receive from the DOE. All students were given their login and a temporary password in homeroom, along with instructions to access their account. If your student still can’t access their account, they should see their homeroom teacher or Mr. McCarthy in the Main Office.
To stay in touch with your student’s academics, you can make sure you have access to JupiterGrades. Returning parents, your Jupiter Grades account should still be active as before. New students received login information for their own account and their parent’s account in homeroom on Friday. If you or your student needs help accessing their account, contact Mr. Ryan McCarthy at rmccarthy@brooklynlatin.org. Parents will also be able to receive Google Classroom guardian summaries in the near future. We are still configuring our Google Classrooms on the new DOE platform.
In closing, I want to reiterate my warmest welcome to all of you. Let us seize this opportunity to make the most of the year ahead, supporting and uplifting one another along the way. Together, we will continue to build a legacy of excellence at The Brooklyn Latin School.
valete,
Katrina Billy-Wilkinson
