The Social Justice Network Food Insecurity Team invites temple and school families to participate in the SNAP Challenge!

January 25 - 28

Why Participate in the SNAP Challenge?

Could you meet your nutritional needs on just $6 a day? That is the daily reality for more than 40 million Americans who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)—our nation’s first line of defense against hunger. While SNAP is vital, the average benefit often falls short of supporting a healthy, adequate diet.

The SNAP Challenge offers a window into this reality. By living on the average SNAP benefit, participants experience firsthand the difficult choices people with low incomes face to avoid hunger, afford nutritious food, stay healthy, and remain focused at work, school, and home.

By participating, you will:

  • raise awareness of hunger in your community,
  • advocate for increased SNAP benefits, and
  • fundraise for local South Florida food insecurity organizations.

How to Participate:

  • Create a personal or family fundraising page on our communal platform and share it widely.
  • The challenge runs January 25–28, 2026. We recommend grocery shopping on Sunday, participating Monday through Wednesday, and sharing your experience on social media.
  • We recommend that oarticipants spend no more than $6 per person per day on food.
  • Participants may purchase any food and non-alcoholic beverages, except hot foods, which are not eligible under SNAP guidelines.

Join us for Advocacy Days in Tallahassee

January 21 - 22

with the TBS Social Justice Team, the Interfaith Alliance, and RAC-FL

Save the Date for a statewide faith-led action in Tallahassee in January.. Our partners at Interfaith Alliance of Florida are organizing a two-day Florida Moral Mobilization & Advocacy Day at the Capitol, and we encourage you to make plans to attend and to invite others in your community.

Over these two days, we will:

·        Stand together in a public moral witness grounded in our diverse faith traditions

·        Meet with legislators and advocate on key issues shaping this year’s legislative session

·        Lift up the dignity and rights of immigrants, youth, and all marginalized communities

·        Strengthening a statewide interfaith network prepared for rapid response throughout 2026

Florida’s faith community has already shown inspiring leadership through vigils, protests, immigrant accompaniment, and policy monitoring. These Moral Mobilization & Advocacy Days will build on that momentum with coordinated statewide action, led by a representative coalition of faith-based and secular organizations.

Tu B'Shevat Virtual Lobby Day with The Jewish Earth Alliance

Tuesday, February 3 on Zoom

This Tu Bishvat, join the Jewish Earth Alliance, members of our Temple Beth Sholom community, and Jews from across the state to urge the 119th Congress to act for ethical climate policies and solutions that protect people and the planet.

This is a critical moment. Congress has the power to stop efforts to weaken bedrock environmental laws and roll back regulations. We will meet virtually with US Senators or their staff to share our values and push for policies that safeguard our future. These focused, half-hour meetings take place online, and you will receive everything you need to participate with confidence.

Tu Bishvat is the Jewish Earth Day. Let’s use it to make our voices heard.

Once you register, sign up for the Briefing & State Breakouts – Tuesday, January 20 @ 8:00 PM ET. Join the full network for a special session. Following words from a speaker, we’ll move into state breakout rooms where you’ll meet with your team to prepare.
