New overpass in Durham begins future widening of Highway 401
The Government of Ontario announced that it will replace the Oshawa Wilson Road overpass in Durham, laying the groundwork to widen Highway 401.
Construction on the Wilson Road overpass begins this summer with improvements to accommodate the replacement of the structure and the future widening of Highway 401. The project includes the installation of new taller light poles, upgrades to the existing noise barrier and new pedestrian sidewalks.

Building construction investment grows in June
Investment in building construction grew 2.8 per cent to reach $21.4 billion in June, reports Statistics Canada. The increase is an additional gain over May’s figures, which had experienced a slight increase of 0.8 per cent, says the agency, which explained the increases as partly reflecting April’s record high of $13.4 billion in building permits.
The June increase in investment in building construction was primarily driven by the residential sector, which rose by 3.8 per cent, to $15 billion.

Humber College announced the opening of the 336-bed student residence at its Lakeshore Campus. The facility, part of the Humber Cultural Hub, addresses the demand for student housing & sets new standards in sustainability.

$3.6B South Niagara Hospital celebrates one-year construction milestone
It’s been just over a year since ground was broken on the massive South Niagara Hospital (SNH) project and the site is bustling with activity as crews currently work on the first three floors of the building.
EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare (EDIH) is the consortium building the facility located in Niagara Falls on the corner of Montrose and Biggar roads.
In May, construction moved above the ground level as work began on the superstructure of the $3.6-billion, 12-storey, 1.3-million-square-feet facility.

Canada invests in sustainable wood construction technologies in Montreal
Natural Resources Canada announced a federal contribution of more than $2.8 million to FPInnovations for three projects. The funding includes investments to support the use of low-carbon Canadian wood in the Canadian construction market and a project to support the use of zero-emissions vehicles in the forestry and commercial transportation sectors.
These investments are provided through Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Green Construction through Wood (GCWood) program and the Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative (ZEVAI).

Blue Line extension contract awarded
Mobilité Bleu Horizon, a consortium formed jointly and equally by Pomerleau, EBC and Spie batignolles, has signed an agreement to carry out work under the main contract of the extension of Montreal’s metro’s Blue Line.
The extension involves the construction of a tunnel and the addition of five new stations spanning over nearly six kilometres, from Saint-Michel station to the Anjou borough.
