Plan to transform Toronto’s Exhibition Place into year-round destination
The Exhibition Place Board of Governors endorsed in principle the Exhibition Place Vision Plan and Concept Scenario, marking a significant step forward in the evolution of one of Toronto’s most important civic assets.
The endorsement follows a presentation from Chief Executive Officer, Don Boyle, outlining the Vision Plan and its potential to transform Exhibition Place into a more connected, accessible and vibrant, year-round destination for residents and visitors.

Ontario introduces POWER Act to ‘cut red tape and streamline’ permits
The Ontario government recently introduced the Protecting Ontario’s Workers and Economic Resilience Act, 2026 (POWER Act), which, if passed, is meant to further the government’s efforts to cut red tape and streamline permits and approvals on projects.

Regulation changes to “clarify and improve” service standards for business permit applications.

Canada's export push fuels nonresidential construction as cross-border friction grows
The year 2025 was marked by heightened tensions between Canada and its largest trading partner, the United States. This friction primarily stemmed from tariffs imposed on key Canadian industries.
As a result, Canada’s share of U.S. imports dropped from 12.6 per cent in 2024 to 11.2 per cent in 2025 — the second-largest decline among major trading partners, according to the Royal Bank of Canada.

Canada Construction Investment Falls in February as Residential Sector Declines
Statistics Canada reports that total investment in building construction declined by $503.2 million (-2.1%) to $23.0 billion in February, primarily driven by weakness in the residential sector. Despite this monthly drop, overall investment increased 1.8% year over year, signaling moderate long-term stability in Canada’s construction market.
The residential sector saw the most significant impact, falling 3.3% to $16.0 billion. This decline was largely attributed to a sharp decrease in multi-unit residential construction, which dropped 6.9% to $8.5 billion.

Sudbury’s $200M downtown event centre moves from concept to construction
A long-anticipated, $200-million event centre in downtown Sudbury is moving from concept to concrete.
Hoarding has been installed around the building site and several drill rigs have been brought in to begin the first major phase of work, installing hundreds of micropiles for the foundation of the new arena.
