TCA Announces a New Strategic Partnership!

As construction industry employers, we realize that our industry the same construction industry that has remained relatively unchanged for centuries is on the cusp of an industrial revolution. New technologies New methodologies, which are creating a renewed sense of technologies urgency in a sector facing formidable international competition and potentially severe labour shortages.

Despite these inevitable changes, our success in Ontario's competitive construction industry begins with sourcing profitable project opportunities, which precisely that TCA became the first mixed trade association in Canada to introduce the electronic plans room. And now decades later, TCA has partnered with ConstructConnect, a global leader in construction data analytics and integrated workflow management, to provide you affordable access to the EPR solution that we believe gives you the competitive advantage TCA members deserve.

TCA's 77th Annual Christmas Luncheon - Thank you for attending!
Our annual Christmas Luncheon was nothing short of incredible!

On Friday, December 6, 2019, TCA hosted its 77th annual Christmas Luncheon at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The sold-out event was a great success. Over 2,600 industry professionals attended and enjoyed a delicious lunch and an afternoon of networking and celebration.

As a highlight of the event, former Mayor of Mississauga, Hazel McCallion , praised the hard-working men and women in the construction industry for their commitment to building a strong city over the years.

Our master of ceremonies Gilson Lubin kept the audience entertained performing some of his classic jokes to the sound of non-stop laughter.

A huge thank you to our board of directors, speakers, sponsors and everyone who participated making this year’s event another great success!

TCA and ConstructConnect hosted the 30th Annual CEO Breakfast at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on Thursday, December 5, 2019.

Minister Monte McNaughton (MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, and Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development) gave an insightful presentation on the importance of encouraging more young people to look at apprentices and skilled trades opportunities as a career path. Minister McNaughton stated that construction jobs are in demand and pay well and that "we need to end the stigma around trades."

Tom Teahen , (President and CEO, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) opened the second half of the session with a fireside conversation led by John Mollenhauer (President, Toronto Construction Association) and Ian Cunningham (President, Council of Ontario Construction Association) where they discussed accountability in workplace health and safety and the significant role all the groups play.

A very special thank you to our speakers and moderators.

Innovative Product Award Winners at Construct Canada

First Place Winner...  Alert Labs!
The 2019 Innovative Product Award was presented at this year's Construct Canada Show!

Thank you to all those who participated and submitted applications for this year's Innovative Product Award a huge congratulations to this year's top three winners:

FIRST PLACE:  Alert Labs  for its Flowie Water Flow Sensor.
Flowie makes it easier for companies and individuals to see how and when they are wasting water. But awareness isn’t enough. Fundamental to most human behaviour is the “WIIFM” principle - “What’s in it for me?” The growing adoption of Flowie can be attributed to its ease of installation and user-friendliness. But Flowie also makes saving water costs and reducing damage profitable. Flowie is able to reduce water waste 23%, on average.
Second Place Winner

Product:   FiAR - Fire Extinguisher Augmented Reality Training Simulator
Third Place Winner

Product:   Automated Building Access for Carriers & Resident Delivery Smart Lockers
Special thank you to Mary Van Buren, President, Canadian Construction Association (CCA) & her team who judged this year's competition, and to our partner Informa Canada for co-sponsoring this award.
