| | Recap: TCA 81st Annual Christmas Luncheon | | |
Once again, the construction industry came together at the close of a busy year to celebrate in festive style at the 81st TCA Christmas Luncheon.
Nearly 2,600 members and guests filled the room to reflect on the year behind them, celebrating wins, learning from challenges, recognizing valued partnerships, and looking ahead to a strong and prosperous year ahead.
The event was once again well hosted by Ron MacLean of Hockey Night in Canada, who treated the packed house to his signature quick wit, thoughtful insights, and heartfelt reflections on what the construction industry means to the people who drive it forward every day.
Sponsorship continues to play a vital role in making this flagship event possible, and the 2026 Luncheon was proudly supported by 11 outstanding sponsors. Home Depot served as the Presenting Sponsor, while Torino Drywall Inc., joined as the Entertainment Sponsor, enjoying a special on-stage photo opportunity with Ron MacLean.
Additional sponsors included United Rentals, Northfleet Group Inc., Trisura Guarantee, Tokio Marine Canada Ltd., Kenaidan Contracting, Xcel Construction Limited, Carpenters & Allied Workers Local 27, Prodigy Construction Inc., and Structural Group of Companies. Their continued support remains instrumental in bringing the industry together on such a meaningful scale.
Along with a fantastic meal, the cocktail hour and networking session offered members the opportunity to reconnect, exchange ideas, and strengthen relationships. With the entire industry gathered in one room, it continues to stand as one of the most valuable networking moments of the year.
For those marking their calendars, the next TCA Christmas Luncheon is scheduled for December 4. After a year filled with ski days, golf tournaments, boat cruises, and wellness events, we look forward to closing it out once again with the industry’s most anticipated celebration.

In today’s construction and property management industries, health and safety are not just operational considerations — they are legal imperatives. Every worker, supervisor, and employer in Ontario is subject to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and its regulations (the “Green Book”). Yet despite the law’s central importance, it remains difficult to access, interpret, and apply in real-time, particularly on busy, high-risk job sites.
Bob the Builder is our company’s innovative response to this critical challenge. It is a custom-built, AI-powered digital assistant that delivers real-time, plain-language, and role-specific interpretations of Ontario’s health and safety legislation. Using advanced conversational AI and a curated Green Book knowledge base, Bob transforms static legal information into interactive safety guidance, accessible on any device and usable directly at the point of need — on job sites, during toolbox talks, in safety meetings, or while completing field tasks.
This innovation marks a first-of-its-kind application in Canada’s construction sector. While AI tools are becoming more common in some industries, their use in health and safety — particularly in legal interpretation for field workers — remains uncharted territory. Bob changes that. It is not a chatbot. It is a regulatory compliance tool, designed to make legislation practical and usable in the real world, by real people — from general labourers to project managers

Second Place Winner: Congic Inc.
Product: TakeCost
AutoTake AI is an advanced, cloud-based automated takeoff engine developed by Congic Inc. to address one of the construction industry’s most persistent bottlenecks: the time-consuming, error-prone process of performing digital takeoffs from architectural drawings. For decades, contractors and estimators have relied on manual tracing, whether on paper, PDF markup tools, or desktop software, to quantify materials. Even with digital tools, takeoffs remain labour intensive, slow, and dependent on individual skill, contributing to bid delays, inconsistent accuracy, and growing industry backlogs.
AutoTake AI introduces an entirely new approach by using custom built computer vision and machine learning models to automatically interpret exterior elevation drawings, detect materials, and generate precise measurements in minutes. Unlike traditional digital takeoff solutions that still require manual tracing, AutoTake AI processes drawings through the cloud and uses trained models to identify lines, surfaces, openings, materials, and other construction elements directly from the blueprint. This allows construction professionals to produce accurate quantities dramatically faster, reducing hours of manual work to minutes.
For Congic Inc., the development of AutoTake AI marks a significant advancement in our mission to make construction estimating faster, more accessible, and more reliable. As a company built by industry professionals, we understand the operational challenges contractors face, especially small and mid-sized companies who lack dedicated estimating staff and often struggle to respond to bid volumes. AutoTake AI enables these companies to complete takeoffs quickly from any device, improving bid turnaround times and allowing them to compete more effectively with larger firms.

Third Place Winner: CARMA Corporation
Product: EMP+ & Accessories
CARMA was proud to launch our newest product in the spring of this year, the EMP+, as well as two accessories: the COMBINER
and the HOOD. Each will be described in detail below.
EMP+
The EMP+ revolutionizes traditional electricity metering panels by introducing improvements in streamlining the installation
processes and optimizing operational efficiency. One of its standout features is its compact design, which incorporates three separate enclosures into one, conserving valuable wall space and simplifying conduit routing. This reduction in physical footprint results in cost savings, as installation expenses are lowered.
The EMP+ also has the ability to accept up to 18 pulse inputs from any mechanical meters (water, gas, thermal) providing the
most consolidated product in the market whereby all utilities can be submetered through one single CARMA meter panel.
In addition to its space-saving benefits, the EMP+ boasts unparalleled versatility in its modular design allowing several meter panels to be vertically, and even horizontally, stacked and integrated, expanding the number of meter points substantially compared to any other product in the market. The EMP+ also has the ability to accommodate multiple configurations of electricity metering Current Transformers (CTs) and pulse inputs from external water and gas meters. This adaptability makes it an ideal solution for a wide range of applications, from mixed-use projects to large-scale commercial and institutional buildings.

12 Ossington wins gold as part of Brick in Architecture Awards
A four-storey, 17,500-square-foot commercial building in downtown Toronto has been named among several gold winners as part of the Brick in Architecture (BIA) Awards competition, which showcases clay brick projects from across the globe.
Undertaken for client Hullmark, Toronto’s 12 Ossington balances landmark presence with sensitivity to its historic context and won the award in the commercial category.
“Featuring retail at grade and offices above, the design uses handcrafted, water-struck brick and expressive arches to reflect the grit and heritage of the Ossington neighbourhood,” a release describes. “A solid, textured brick base contrasts with light, set-back upper floors, creating a dialogue between past and present. Rich masonry details, arched forms, and finely crafted materials give the building a strong street presence while honouring local history and elevating the area’s main-street character.”
The masonry on the project was carried out by Oliynyk Masonry Inc. and the architects were Hariri Pontarini Architects. It was completed in 2022, the architect notes.
The 2025 BIA awards featured 42 projects that placed in Best In Class, Gold, Silver and Bronze across the nine different categories as well as an overall Craftsmanship Award, which only one project earns.
The categories are Craftsmanship, Thin Brick, International, Residential Single Family, Commercial, Residential Multi-Family, Education (Colleges and Universities), Paving and Landscaping, Education (K-12), and Historic Renovation.
