Recap: TCA 2022 Golf Day Event - THANK YOU for attending
|
|
On Thursday, May 12, 2022, the TCA Annual Golf Tournament took place at the beautiful Angus Glen Golf Club on both their north and south courses and it was yet again a huge success, selling out in only a matter of days. All 288 people who were in attendance at this magnificent event were treated to a gorgeous day of golf, and lots of on-course excitement, from contests to enjoying all the delicious goodies that were served up by the Home Depot sponsored Wood Pizza oven and Espresso & Gelato stations, to beer holes on both north and south courses, a cannoli station and more.
Back again this year after a two-year absence due to COVID-19 restrictions was the post golf reception in the great dining hall. Golfers and sponsors were treated to an amazing dinner while spending the night networking and watching the Leafs game on a giant screen.
Of course, prizes were a big draw, and Home Depot, our Platinum Sponsor did not disappoint offering all sorts of tools as well as lawnmowers and even a grand prize BBQ. It was a spectacle like nothing before.
One of the major highlights of the day was the Home Depot sponsored and nothing short of spectacular, Helicopter Ball drop in which TCA teamed up with SkickKids to raise money for their charity. In the end, TCA raised $5,000 for SickKids, and it is all thanks to our amazing members and attendees at this year’s event.
A huge congratulations to our grand prize winner of the Helicopter Ball Drop $1,000 cash prize, Dylan Page of Page Flooring and Concrete Solutions.
An event like this would not be possible if not for the sponsors and we would like to thank them all for their continued support.

Construction 201 – PM and Field Supervisor Master Class
Module 1 Negotiating to Win On Site – 3.5 Hours
This 3.5 hour module explores Harvard's Program on Negotiation (PON) and walks the learner through distributive and integrative bargaining strategies required to arrive at the best possible outcome for settling disputes on-site. Leveraging the best information you have while putting the interests of the project front and centre, we will work through practical solutions including a prisoners dilemma group exercise.
Module 2 Communication Strategies in a New Era of Social Distancing – 3.5 Hours
Recognizing the appropriate medium for delivery of message will be more critical than ever to build trust among project partners. Email is not always the right solution, yet a handshake is no longer socially acceptable. This dilemma needs new thought, and practical solutions that we will explore to arm PM's and Site Superintendents with the key skills they need to get their message across, while also respecting the receiving of messages from others in the spirit of collaboration to get the job done.
Module 3 Productivity in Construction – Moving the Needle 1 Percent in Your Workflow – 3.5 Hours
Using statistical data from McKinsey & Company, we explore how we can adjust our work flow to account for just a 1% productivity increase on-site. That 1% translates on a $10 million small project to an additional $25,000.00 in net profit. But how do you do it with so many moving parts in a supply chain? The National Research Council study Productivity in Construction reveals a pathway to success.
Module 4 Leadership – Leadership is Not a Rank – It is a Decision! – 3.5 Hours
We will learn the way our bodies behave when faced with stress, and explore the personal growth needed to begin your path to strengthening your leadership skills. Critical to your own career journey, deciding to be, or in the alternative, knowing when not to be the leader and allow others to take over takes critical thinking and understanding of our very own biological make-up, and more.

Construction about to begin on Peterborough’s historic YMCA building
15 years since it closed its doors as a community resource, health and wellness centre, the former YMCA building at 475 George St. in Peterborough, Ont. has found new life as Y Lofts, an upscale purpose-built rental with 136 apartments.
The original three-and-a-half storey red brick structure was built in 1896 and is an anchor in the city’s Civic Square that also includes city hall, a heritage armoury and a former high school building.
Some of Canada’s leading architects had a hand in the Y building’s design, including local architect William Blackwell, who designed the original 1895 Victorian building with Romanesque Revival features, his son Walter Blackwell who designed the 1930s addition, plus Craig and Ziedler, and Allen, Brown and Sheriff, who respectively designed the 1969 and 1978 additions.
The interior of the four-storey landmark was mostly demolished and rebuilt with two floors and new sections added in a $50-million project to create 136 rental suites and modern amenities.
Positioned in a U-shape around a courtyard, the apartments are more than half leased already. The remaining units range from a 625-square-foot studio to a three-bedroom unit of more than 2,000 square feet. There are also one- and two-bedroom suites with and without dens, as well as a number of accessible units. Prices range from $1,850 to more than $2,550 per month
As part of the conversion, amenities were added such as a rooftop terrace and party room/lounge with a kitchen and dining area; state-of-the-art gym with massage room; and first-floor business centre.
High-tech features were incorporated, including a phone app controlling everything from door locks to buzzing in guests. The rental suites have concrete ceilings, energy-efficient windows, stainless steel kitchen appliances, Caesarstone countertops and ensuite washer/dryer units. Bike racks and electric car chargers are also available in Y Lofts, which has been nominated for a 2021 BILD award for best midrise building design.
Developer: Atria Development
Architect: A & Architects
Interior designer: Nino Francavilla of Studio Uno
Estimated value: $50 million
