RECAP: TCA 2026 Annual Golf

The TCA finally got back in sync with Mother Nature and together, the two delivered an epic and unforgettable day on the course.

Reuniting with their long-standing partners at Angus Glen Golf Club, the TCA once again utilized both the pristine and challenging North and South Courses. The result? A completely sold-out tournament… in less than a week.

The day featured no shortage of great food, great conversations, and of course, plenty of golf. On-course activations reached a whole new level this year, with numerous companies setting up on individual holes to connect with golfers as they casually and in some cases competitively made their way through the course.

From pizza, espresso, and gelato generously sponsored by The Home Depot, to a Tequila bar courtesy of Xcel Construction serving golfers across both courses, the experience was packed with memorable touches throughout the day. Guests also enjoyed ice cream thanks to Maestro Technologies, even more ice cream courtesy of Stubbe's — because apparently one ice cream stop simply wasn’t enough — along with lunch sponsored by Northbridge Insurance and many more fantastic offerings throughout the event.

Alongside those incredible sponsors, the TCA also extends sincere thanks to the following companies who proudly participated and helped create such a memorable experience for everyone in attendance:

  • MYC Media
  • Bothwell-Accurate
  • Benson Steel
  • Exact Technology
  • Paterson Group
  • Foretech Electric
  • Supersave Group
  • Pinchin
  • Xradar
  • Trimble
  • Doka
  • Corfix
  • Mapei
  • Pritchard Power Systems
  • Appello
  • Diverso Energy
  • Mansteel Rebar
  • Magil Construction
  • Ideal Roofing
  • LGR Tiles Ltd.

As the evening rolled into a gorgeous spring sunset, guests gathered for dinner, prizes were handed out to lucky winners, and the tournament once again proved why it continues to be one of the industry’s premier events.

All in all, the bar was officially raised yet again — which means it’s already time to start looking ahead to TCA Golf 2027, taking place Thursday, May 27. Register early!

TCA's 31st Annual Members' Day Event: Recap

On Wednesday, May 13, TCA hosted its 31st Annual Members Day at the office in Richmond Hill, welcoming 250 members for a day of networking, exhibiting, and celebration.

The day began with the Industry Forum, where the panel discussion, “The Adoption Gap: Why Some Firms Thrive with Tech While Others Don’t?” explored technology and AI adoption in construction.

Moderated by Mark Casaletto., the panel featured Bryce Jones, Vice President and Area Manager (Toronto) at Modern Niagara; Shawn Watta, Founder and CEO of Corfix; and Terry Olynyk, Founder of BLDscale Consulting. The discussion focused on labour shortages, project complexity, productivity demands, and the importance of implementation and behavioural change.

“I don't believe technology fails; I believe people and leadership fail.” stated Mark Casaletto.

Leadership also emerged as a key theme. The panellists emphasized that successful technology adoption requires clear vision, strategic planning, and involvement across all levels of an organization, including field teams. They warned against buying software simply because it is new or popular, stressing that investments must align with the company goals.

“Without a proper plan, organizations solve problems with separate technologies instead of optimizing the whole business. The real opportunity is to step back and align technology with a clear strategy and purpose.” Bryce Jones

The panellists discussed AI’s growing role in construction, from automating administrative tasks and analyzing data to improving decisions and workflows. The panellists noted that AI’s value depends on strong data quality, governance, and human oversight.

“Agentic AI is like a brilliant apprentice: highly capable, but unfamiliar with your organization. With proper training, it can automate repetitive tasks, reduce friction, and boost productivity.” Terry Olynyk

Attendees were encouraged to see AI as an accelerator, not a replacement, for strong business processes. Organizations with solid foundations, innovation, and employee-driven ideas will be best positioned to use AI effectively.

The session concluded with a call for leaders to embrace innovation strategically and build cultures of continuous improvement. As technology reshapes construction, strong leadership and practical implementation will be key to future success.

Thank you to our panel: Mark Casaletto, Shawn Watts, Terry Olynyk, and Bryce Jones for an insightful, forward-thinking conversation.

After the forum, members visited the exhibition, which featured 60 exhibitors and the 250 attendees. Despite the strong wind, everyone enjoyed a BBQ lunch, and one lucky member won a $500 cash prize.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this year's event another great success. We look forward to welcoming you back next year!

YCL 2026 Ping Pong: Recap

YCL held its annual Table Tennis tournament and once again returned to SPIN for all the high octane festivities.

The spring event has become a staple in the event calendar with Construction companies converging on a different yet maybe even more competitive battle field, the ping pong table.

While the tournament was, as always fiercely competitive, it also served as a networking opportunity unlike any other. Combatants wage their war but in the end, a handshake and laughs serves as the justified conclusion.

Of course if you are eliminated early or even more likely, just taking in the vibe as a non-player, there is plenty to keep you entertained. From spectating to networking and of course delicious food. The spread is always high end in full supply. No one leaves hungry.

The drinks are cold and the conversations are rife with the promise of potential partnership, and business opportunities.

The Sponsors help make these events what they are and a special thanks goes out to the 2026 sponsors.

Project of the Month

Toronto Pearson begins $3B overhaul to

handle 65 million passengers a year

Construction is officially underway on one of the largest airport infrastructure programs in Canadian history as Toronto Pearson International embarks on a decade-long, multi-billion-dollar effort to modernize facilities, expand capacity and prepare for the next generation of air travel.

The first phase, called the Long-term Investment in Facilities and Terminals program, will see $3 billion invested to renew aging infrastructure, introduce advanced technology and create more capacity for passengers, airlines and cargo operations.

Ground was formally broken this spring on the first construction package. The initial work will be focused on airside improvements and baggage systems, and laying the groundwork for a more efficient, sustainable and digitally enabled airport capable of handling future growth.

Deborah Flint, president and chief executive officer at Toronto Pearson, said the project is pivotal and marks the culmination of three years of planning, analysis, competitive procurement and collaboration with industry partners and air carriers.

Among the most significant upgrades is the installation of a new airfield lighting control and management system. The technology will improve visibility and aircraft guidance while creating an intelligent network capable of monitoring and responding to aircraft movement across runways and taxiways.

The project will also include major sustainability investments. Expanded electric vehicle charging infrastructure, cleaner heating systems and upgraded energy networks are planned as part of Pearson’s long-term strategy to reduce emissions and support greener airport operations.

Baggage handling, one of the airport’s most complex operational systems, will receive significant attention. Approximately 30 kilometres of baggage infrastructure will be upgraded, including the installation of new baggage carousels in Terminal 1.

Additional cameras and sensors will provide real-time monitoring and early detection of potential issues, helping operators identify and clear jams before they disrupt passenger service.

The most visible changes will occur on the airfield itself. Pearson plans to renew and expand its 2.2-million-square-metre airfield, an area roughly equivalent to more than 1,000 NHL-sized hockey rinks.

The work will include new aircraft stands and the construction of a high-speed taxiway that will improve aircraft movement between gates and runways.

Airport officials estimate these improvements alone will support up to 28,000 additional passengers per day while reducing delays and improving overall operational efficiency.

The current construction phase builds upon planning efforts that began several years ago. In 2024, the Greater Toronto Airports Authority initiated procurement discussions with hundreds of design, construction and technology firms to develop the program’s long-term vision and delivery strategy.

A key feature of the initiative is the use of a progressive design-build model. Under the model, designers, contractors and airport officials work together during the planning and design stages to better define project scope, costs and risks before major construction proceeds.

While the first phase focuses primarily on airfield and baggage improvements, it represents only the beginning of a broader transformation.

Additional investments and project details are expected to be announced in the coming months, including plans to revitalize and expand terminal facilities to accommodate long-term passenger demand.

According to independent economic analysis conducted by Oxford Economics, the improvements will enable the airport to handle 65 million passengers annually, create approximately 16,000 new jobs on airport grounds and support more than 160,000 jobs across Canada. The program is also expected to contribute roughly $30 billion to the economy and generate more than $10 billion annually in spending with Canadian suppliers.

Airport officials argue maintaining Pearson’s position as a major international hub is critical not only for travellers but also for Canada’s broader economy. Nearly half of the country’s air cargo passes through Pearson, while the surrounding airport employment zone supports hundreds of thousands of jobs and billions in economic activity.

The investments will help ensure airlines continue expanding service in Toronto rather than shifting routes and aircraft to competing North American hubs.

The project comes as Canada’s busiest airport faces increasing pressure from rising passenger volumes and aging infrastructure. Pearson handled approximately 45 million passengers in 2023 and now serves nearly 50 million travellers annually.

Airport forecasts suggest that figure could climb to the annual 65-million-passenger level by the early 2030s.

The work is necessary because existing airport facilities are approaching their limits. Wide-body aircraft traffic continues to increase, gate capacity is constrained and some travellers are already being transported to aircraft by bus because available gates are full.
