Need to Know
Here are the top 3 things to know this week:
Pastor's Note: Rev. Kyle Smethurst
Some approach Christian parenting like a game of Tetris. It's an enormous struggle to get all the pieces of our kids' schedules into place. Life is happening quickly. Figuring out how to fit sleep, practice, homework, activities, tutoring, classes, games, concerts and rehearsals into the 168 hours of a kid's schedules requires nothing less than a P.h.D. in planning...
This Saturday, October 5 | 6-8p

Join us at the Vanslette’s home in Wayland for dinner and a time to connect with pastors and other people in the church. Whether you are new to the community, or just want to connect with other people at TCC, you’re invited!

This Sunday is First Sundays Together!

On the first Sunday of each month, we will worship with one voice as one unified family in the Gym and Phillips Hall space. Adults, K-5 children, and students will begin together in the worship service and split off into age-specific ministries after 20 minutes. Children in grades K-5 should be checked in as usual.
Announcements
A Note from Pastor Tom – Gail Hughson Retiring

With September already behind us, some of you may not have heard an announcement made in the church service a couple of weeks ago; Gail Hughson is retiring.  This year marks the 20 th year of Gail’s ministry as the Director of Children Ministries. In fact, she and Charlie have been part of our community for the past 40 years! What a wonderful statement of God’s faithfulness in her life and in the lives of the countless number of people her ministry has impacted over the years.

So, in a very real sense, the announcement that Gail is retiring sometime after the New Year comes with quite a bit of sadness for all of us. But as Gail keeps telling the staff, she has peace and joy and we all know Gail and Charlie will continue to “live the adventure” in obedience to His calling. She assures me she will be around TCC and we are excited about that, but we also want her and Charlie to explore more bike trails in the Green State as well as enjoying time with her grandchildren. We will have announcements about the ways we will celebrate God’s faithfulness to and through Gail in the days to come. In the meantime, be sure to write notes of gratitude to her and other expressions of love our wonderful church is so well-known for!

In His Service together for the Gospel,
Pastor Tom

Leviticus is a book of crazy laws. Why does it matter to us as Christians? Come to a four week class on Leviticus and you will begin to see why it’s actually one of the most important books of the Bible.

Commissioning Steven and Ashley Weiss This Sunday

This Sunday we are excited to commission Steven and Ashley Weiss, former Student Ministries Staff, for mission’s ministry in Cambodia. Steven and Ashley will be serving with YWAM at the School of Biblical Studies in Battambang, Cambodia. We will hear from them and pray for their family, including their sons Boone and Athan.

In addition to their commissioning, we will also celebrate the ordination of Steven Weiss. In July, a council of fellow ministers and believers evaluated Steven and recognized Steven's definitive call to pastoral ministry. It's our honor to present Rev. Steven Weiss to the community this Sunday!
Nominating Committee Nominations

The TCC Board is currently initiating the nomination process in preparation for our January 2020 Annual Congregational Meeting. The first step is to form the Nominating Committee. As a reminder, per the by-laws, the Nominating Committee includes the Senior Pastor, Moderator and one other Board member as well as four members from the congregation. We are seeking recommendations for four members from the congregation who will join the Senior Pastor, the Moderator and a Board member on that Committee.

The Nominating Committee is responsible for nominating members of the congregation to fill all open and elected positions at the Annual Meeting. This year, there are openings for all officer positions (Moderator, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer and Clerk), which are one-year terms. The Board has 2 vacancies, the Deacons have 4 vacancies, and Finance has 2 vacancies, all of which are 3 year terms.

Please contact any Board member to suggest potential Nominating Committee nominees. We are eager to hear from you!

Together in Christ,
The TCC Board
Asa Foster (Moderator), Tom Petter, (Senior Pastor), Peter Armstrong, Marty Bodley, Nickaela Fiore-Keyes, Emose Piou, Amy Scott and Dan Williams

Thank You and Financial Donations Still Needed!

Thank you to everyone who contributed supplies and the funds for LULY. We are shutting down our school materials donation for this year to turn the focus on our financial goal. Because of your generosity, 8 barrels of school supplies, clothing, shoes, sneakers and Bibles are now heading to Liberia.  Additional funds still need to be raised for tuition to send 10 highly motivated children to Christian schools this year. The schools also provide an opportunity to receive Christian training, and the scholarships are a wonderful way to tangibly share the love of Christ through giving. Can you help?

To donate, please send a check to:

D.M. Stearns Missionary Fund
PO Box 1578
North Wales, PA. 19454

Checks are to be made payable to “DMSMF”, with a note requesting that the donation be directed to LULY/#246. Please do not write anything in the memo line of the checks.

On Saturday, October 5, from 10AM - 4PM, The Abbey of The Way will offer a Late Pentecost Day of Reflection, entitled, "The Calm in The Storm".   Based on the life and ministry of Jesus as described in Mark 4:35-5:20, the day will consist of Morning, Midday, and Evening Prayer, two brief reflections on the theme of the day, and lots of time for restful reflection in the spacious Abbey and (weather permitting) peaceful grounds and neighborhood. A delicious lunch will be served for those so desiring, as well as snacks and beverages throughout the day.   Please register by emailing us at [email protected] , by calling us at 508-799-5011, or by texting us at 508-579-3442.

Those wishing to extend their time with us are welcome to do so, either overnight Friday to Saturday before the Day of Reflection, or Saturday to Sunday after. Again, please let us know if you would like to take advantage of this option. The requested donation for the day Retreat will be $25, plus $7 for lunch for those so choosing. Additional funds will be requested for those staying overnight and needing additional meals.

On Monday, October 14, from 10AM-2PM, Pastors and those involved in vocational Christian leadership are invited to come to a "Pastor's Day with God".   Consisting of Morning and Midday Prayer and a brief biblical reflection on maintaining compassion amidst the pressures of ministry, the bulk of the day will offer time for quiet reflection, as well as a delicious lunch. Snacks and beverages will be available throughout the day. The requested donation for the day will be $25.   Please register by emailing us at [email protected] ,  or call us at 508-799-5011, or text to 508-579-3442. Those wishing to come early or stay later (or overnight) can simply inquire.
