New AAP Clinical Practice Guidelines for Obesity- Live Training October 10th

TCCN is excited to host this educational webinar scheduled for Tuesday, October 10, 6:30-8:00 pm, on the new AAP guidelines for obesity, with a special focus on patients with diabetes.


Attendance at this webinar is an additional opportunity to fulfill the TCCN practice education requirement. As a bonus, those participating in real time will receive 1.5 CME credits.

FDA Notice: Recall on 4.2% Sodium Bicarbonate Injection, USP and 1% and 2% Lidocaine HCl Injection, USP by Hospira Products*

October 2, 2023- Hospira, a Pfizer company, is recalling Lot Numbers GJ5007, 42290DK, and GH6567 of 4.2% Sodium Bicarbonate Injection, USP, 5 mEq/10mL vial; 1% Lidocaine HCl Injection, USP, 50 mg/5mL vial; and 2% Lidocaine HCl Injection, USP, 100 mg/5mL vial due to the potential for presence of glass particulate matter.


RECOMMENDATIONS: 


  • Wholesalers, hospitals, institutions, and doctors with an existing inventory of a lot which is being recalled should discontinue use, stop distribution and quarantine the product immediately.
  • If you have further distributed the recalled product, please notify your accounts and/or any additional locations which may have received the recalled product.
  • Hospitals/Institutions should inform Healthcare Professionals in your organization of this recall.

FDA Provides Updated Recommendations for Certain O&M Halyard Surgical N95 Respirators, Surgical Masks, and Pediatric Face Masks*

September 29, 2023- The FDA is providing an update to consumers, health care providers, and facilities about certain surgical N95 respirators and masks manufactured by O&M Halyard. This update includes the current recommendations for these products based on new data and information provided by O&M Halyard. The FDA will continue to work with O&M Halyard to ensure its surgical N95 respirators, surgical masks, and pediatric face masks are in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Payor Updates

Georgia Medicaid Provider Revalidation

Under the ACA, Medicaid providers are required to revalidate their enrollment for each location once every 5 years. Any identified provider who has not validated by September 15th will have their Medicaid enrollment terminated on September 16th. DCH will not retro the effective date for providers should they revalidate post-disenrollment.

 

A report of those providers who have not submitted a revalidation application can be found online on the GAMMIS website at www.mmis.georgia.gov. Click on Provider Information/Reports for Public Access link.

 

The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) regarding revalidation can be found on GAMMIS at www.mmis.georgia.gov. Click on Provider Information/FAQ for Providers. In addition, providers may contact Medicaid’s fiscal agent DXC at 800-766-4456 (Option #1).

Asthma Flu Recall Lists

Asthma Flu Recall lists were distributed through secure emails to practices last month. Please use this list as a tool to help you start recall efforts early for the upcoming flu season. The flu vaccine continues to be one of the best ways to help provide the greatest protection possible against the flu and other communicable diseases, especially for vulnerable populations including Asthmatics.

Pfizer Medical Training Webinar: Potential Updated COVID-19 Vaccines from Pfizer and BioNTech (2023-2023 Formula)

On September 11, 2023, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the supplemental Biologics License Application (COMIRNATY® (COVID-19 Vaccine, mRNA)) for individuals 12 years and older, and granted emergency use authorization for Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine (2023-2024 Formula) for individuals 6 months through 11 years of age for the companies’ Omicron XBB.1.5-adapted monovalent COVID-19 vaccine.

Join us for the monthly webinar series hosted by Children's Physician Outreach and the Physician Education department. This month, Rachel Whaley will be discussing how Children's behavioral health experts deliver their training on Building Resilience.


Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is accredited by the Medical Association of Georgia to provide continuing medical education for physicians.


Children's designates this internet live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.


Stark Law Disclaimer: In order for Children’s to meet Stark Law regulatory requirements that allow Children’s to provide a limited amount of non-monetary compensation to physicians, we must note your participation in this CME activity at a value of $25 per credit hour. This amount will be applied to your non-monetary compensation allowance. No action is required on your part and you will be notified if you are nearing the limit by the physician education team. The total non-monetary compensation allowed for 2023 is $484.


Pediatric Mental Health Training from the REACH Institute- Upcoming Dates for January and February 2024

Free virtual training for TCCN primary care physicians in 2024!


This is an excellent opportunity for TCCN members to get free training in pediatric mental health. An Atlanta donor has granted the REACH Institute an opportunity to allow free training for the Patient-Centered Mental Health in Pediatric Primary Care (PPP) program,


The PPP Program trains clinicians to diagnose and treat pediatric mental health conditions including ADHD, anxiety, depression and other common disorders seen in everyday practice.


Upcoming dates for this training in 2024 are:

  • January 19-21, 2024
  • February 2-4, 2024

Roadmap for Emotional Health Resources

In 2022 we launched an MOC program for our subspecialty members based on the ABP’s Roadmap project designed to bring additional awareness and training to providers around emotional, behavioral, and mental health.


This training is available to all providers regardless of specialty, and you can watch the 5-minute introductory video here and review more details about the program here including instructions on how to claim MOC credit.

Cincinnati Children’s Grand Rounds: Addressing the Emotional Health of Children and Youth with Chronic Conditions and Their Families


Physicians are eligible to receive ABP MOC Part 2 credit by viewing Grand Rounds and completing a short online post-test.

 

The Roadmap Project maintains a website (www.roadmapforemotionalhealth.org/patients-and-families) with additional resources.

Required CME for Physicians - Sexual Misconduct

HB458 was passed into Law in 2021 and was effective January 1, 2022 and requires that each physician complete a 2 hour course in “professional boundaries and sexual misconduct in medical practice” before renewing their GA medical license (this is a one-time requirement).  

 

TCCN’s Malpractice Carrier, Curi, has two 1 hour CME courses on “Sexual Misconduct” that fulfills the new GA license requirement for HB458. Please see instructions below on how to access.
