Welcome!

Greetings!

If you were thinking about starting a new diet, you may want to hold off until sometime after Labor Day. Michael Dwyer serves up all the piping hot details about Rochester Restaurant Week and how you can get in on this fun way to discover new, favorite places to dine downtown.

Speaking of downtown... that's where you'll find Lucido's Fine Jewelry. Jen Bucciarelli discovered that in addition to offering a great selection of unique pieces, the Lucido brothers also give back to the community in big ways that are worth their weight in gold.

How does your garden grow? Mom-in-the-know Meghan Zeile doesn't have one, but that doesn't mean she can't reap the benefits of healthy vegetables like zucchini from those that do.

As you have probably noticed, Dear Crabby is a bit on the old-fashioned side. So his take on the Amish probably won't come as too much of a surprise.

Lucido brothers gear up for another charitable year in Rochester
By Jen Bucciarelli

Giving away a Rolex might seem like a huge deal, but for Vince and Joe Lucido, they don't sweat it.

Gus Scibilia holds the same model of Rolex watch that a local man won in a Lucido golf outing last weekend for a hole-in-one shot.

Last week, the brothers and owners of Lucido Fine Jewelry hosted a golf outing at Boulder Pointe Golf Club in Oxford where a local man received just that, a brand new Rolex for his hole-in-one shot.

"We welcome the hole-in-one," said Gus Scibilia of Lucido Fine Jewelry in Downtown Rochester. "They're really in the community efforts, Vince and Joe are really into that."

In their 25 years of business, the two brothers continue to build a network statewide through their work with local organizations.

And many are found in the Rochester area, Scibilia says.

Dear Crabby, Why are the Amish people so primitive?

Dear Crabby,

What is the story with the Amish people? Why are they so primitive in their lifestyle?

Sincerely, Modern Mo

Dear Modern Mo,

I certainly am not an expert on the Amish people, but I can appreciate their work ethic. From what I have read these folks are Christians originally from SwitzeDearCrabbyrland and were led by a pastor named Jakob Amman. Therefore, his followers were known as "Amish." There are also Mennonites, which operate much the same way. These folks choose to live separate lives from the rest of the community and they take care of themselves, too. They are not a burden to the state in any way and they actually contribute by making beautiful pieces of furniture that you can buy. They grow their own food and they make their own clothes. If half of the kids in our country could do half of that, we would be miles ahead by now!

Healthy, easy, and tasty Zucchini
By Meghan Zeile

I am super jealous of anyone who has the ability and time to garden. I love the idea of growing my own fruits and vegetables and having that bounty at my disposal. However, we are gone too often during the spring and summer to make that possible. We are also overridden with squirrels and children at my house, which I feel would be a detriment to the healthy growth of a garden. That being said, my mom gave me two enormous zucchini from her garden. I am not

kidding when I say enormous. These guys were grown without any pesticides-Amazing! Anyway, she gave them to me last week and they just sat on my counter. After a few days, it felt like they were watching me. I really needed to do something with them. Personally, I love vegetables, but my son and husband are a completely different story so I really needed a few fun ideas so I didn't have to eat these giant zucchini all on my own.
