Greetings from the Executive Director
Liebe TCGIS Gemeinschaft! Dear TCGIS community,
I am so proud of and grateful to our school community for all we have given and learned and created in the first four months of this uniquely challenging school year.
My wish for all of you is rest and peace during this winter break, time with people and activities you love, and as they say in German, “einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr” (more or less: may you slide well into the new year).
See you in 2022!
sehr herzlich,
Kirsten Christensen

Rapid Antigen Tests Going Home in Backpacks Today
Today your student should have brought home a BD Veritor rapid antigen test for use at home. We strongly recommend you use this test before returning to school after winter break and/or if your student develops symptoms. TCGIS ordered these from supply through the State of MN for every student and staff, especially knowing rapid antigen tests can be hard to find. You can see more information about these tests here.

Please No Parking or Stopping on Como Avenue
Especially now that we have snow on the ground, please refrain from parking or idling anywhere on Como Ave between Van Slyke and Lexington Ave. The combination of narrower streets due to plowed snow and parked or stopped cars create a serious traffic flow issue: 2-way traffic becomes a 1-way lane and the busses have difficulty navigating the narrow space. Como Ave is also an important crosswalk area, and the congestion makes this more dangerous for students and families. We ask families to please park/stop on side streets only and students can walk down the sidewalk to the crossing guard, or use the Van Slyke Ave car line, for drop-off and pick-up. Vielen Dank!
Thank you for your patience this year as we have all worked through the reduced busing routes and the bus driver shortages. CSTMN has lost 5 drivers just this last week to long-haul trucking companies who are offering sign-on bonuses and increased hours, making it difficult to staff our routes.
TCGIS staff continues to work with CSTMN to try to secure a 3rd bus driver so that we can improve the current bus routes in January. We are cautiously optimistic and should know more when we return from winter break.
If we are unable to add a 3rd bus, we will be sending out a bus usage survey to all registered busing families mid-January. From what we are learning from families, some of the current stops are not picking up students, so we would like to tighten the routes up and reduce the route times for those who ride regularly.
We appreciate your patience and understanding during this unprecedented year. We know that our families are shouldering a lot with the reduced routes and long commute times. Thank you for your understanding.

Please return any overdue Library Books TOMORROW
If your student(s) has library items checked out from before November 26, please make sure their materials are returned by tomorrow, December 17 to avoid a notice being sent home in January. Materials can be returned straight to the library or in the drop box (right outside of the library). If you have any questions, please email our library coordinator, Frau Zimmerman.

Lost and Found: Please pick up before Winter Break!
Missing jackets, gloves, water bottles and more? We can help! Please remind your student to come and pick up your missing items from the lost and found. Feel free to come and look through it as well.
Location: West Entrance, bottom of the staircase.
We will be donating any remaining items to keep our “lost and found” organized and easier for students to search for items.

We are noticing that the tradition of Hausschuhe or houseshoes is trailing off in the upper grades at the Middle School. Please discuss with your older student why it is important to wear different shoes outside than inside. Our beautiful new Gym floor needs to be protected and slippery floors are dangerous. Students should bring another pair of shoes to change in to when they arrive to school. If your student is resistant to boots, bringing an extra pair of tennis shoes to school works, too! Thanks for helping us keep all of our facilities looking brand new and all of our students safe.

Schöne Ferien! Have a wonderful winter break!
TCGIS will be closed for Winter Break from Saturday, December 18 - Sunday, January 2. Teachers and staff will have their vacation responders on and will not be checking email. We hope your family also has a chance to unplug and relax at the close of quite a year! We wish your family a wonderful winter break!
More students are forgetting their water bottles at home and needing to get paper cups from the office. We want our students to stay hydrated throughout the day to maximize their learning and to stay healthy. We are not yet using the drinking fountain and would like to keep unnecessary waste out of the landfills. Please check in with your child and make sure they are bringing their Wasserflasche, labeled with their name and class section!
