Liebe TCGIS Gemeinschaft! / Dear TCGIS community,
Innovative educational activity continues around the school as we approach winter break...
- Kindergarteners continue to spend time outdoors exploring nature.
- Frau Jacobson’s second graders are having a cozy reading hour with a blanket from home and a favorite book.
- Frau Spading’s elementary sport classes will be building snowmen from sports equipment
- Third-grade classes and their families filled the cafeteria for their Winterfest and sang and recited their hearts out.
- 7th graders in Frau Müller’s German classes held debates.
- 7th graders in Frau Stillwell’s science classes extracted DNA from strawberries under the enthusiastic guidance of geneticist Lynn Hartweck.
- 8th graders in Frau Sweeney’s classes studied the properties of pH using purple cabbage.
Thank you for sharing your students with us for these and so many other exciting learning opportunities!
Herzlich

TCGIS Interns visit the University of St. Thomas
TCGIS interns were hosted by Prof. Susanne Wagner and the German Department at the University of St. Thomas (UST) yesterday. Aligned with our school values of curiosity and intercultural engagement, this field trip was an opportunity to observe a German literature course taught by Prof. Wagner (and attended by a TCGIS alumna!), have lunch in the campus dining center, and tour campus with a dual German & Engineering student. We discussed the various forms of higher education in the U.S.; the cost of college in the U.S. and Germany; and the types of majors/minors available among other things. Herzlichen Dank to our friends in the German Dept. at University of St. Thomas for an outstanding experience!

Parents: Germs can spread quickly in schools
As winter progresses, we are seeing more non-Covid-related illnesses. If your child is sick with a cough, fever, sore throat, vomiting, or diarrhea, they should stay home from school to avoid spreading germs that can make others sick. Keeping sick children home and encouraging mask-wearing with mild symptoms can help prevent the spread of infectious diseases, such as influenza (flu), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), norovirus, and COVID-19, and support healthy learning and teaching environments for all. More information about when students should not come to school is available in our Family Handbook. Thank you for helping to keep our school community healthy!
