Der Rundbrief
ISSUE 502 / June 9, 2022
Director's Message
Liebe TCGIS Gemeinschaft! / Dear TCGIS community,

So many wonderful activities are filling these last few days of this school year.
By the time you read this, our 8th graders will have just returned from their class trip to Chicago, an alternative to the Germany capstone that had to be canceled for the third year in a row.

We are grateful that students could enjoy this adventure together in the Windy City and thank Katharina Schirg, Director of International Programs and Communications for expertly organizing all the logistics on such a tight time frame and Dean Elizabeth Zehnpfennig and staff members Diana Erwin, Catie Jacobs and Jasmin Root-Joswig for chaperoning!
Elsewhere around the school:
  • Parents and younger students have enjoyed 4th-grade performances of Wo die wilden Kerle Wohnen (Where the Wild Things Are)
  • 4th- and 5th-grade classes have attended performances of Diary of a Wimpy Kid at the Children’s Theater Company
  • 5th-grade Social Studies students in Herr Tabisz’s classes hosted “A Day in the Middle Ages,” depicting various aspects of medieval life.
  • First and second graders are reflecting on their year and how far they’ve come with Erinnerungsbücher (Memory books) and questionnaires.
I’m so proud of our teachers and students for all their hard and creative work this year!

Herzlich,
Kirsten

Tonight: Welcome SC Paderborn 07 to Minneapolis!
TCGIS families and students are invited to welcome the SC Paderborn soccer team when they arrive at the Renaissance Hotel at the Depot in downtown Minneapolis this evening. Their anticipated arrival time is 5:45 p.m. The German organizers thought TCGIS families would enjoy this additional opportunity to get to know the players before their visit to school on Friday. Viel Spaß!
German Soccer Team Visits TCGIS Tomorrow
We are excited to welcome SC Paderborn 07, a professional German soccer team at TCGIS tomorrow! Soccer players will tour the school, visit classes and then play a soccer match with our students.
The team's social media content creator will be on-site and local media have also been invited to cover their visit. Our students may appear in photos on Paderborn's social media feeds but without names or identifying information.
If you have not given us media-release permission for your student, your student will not be in any photos taken during the visit to classrooms at school. Please note this will be hard to control during the soccer game if photos are taken of the players that include spectators on the sidelines. However we will request that no identifying information is included in shots where we cannot control which children may be visible. If you have a particular concern about this possibility, please connect with your child's classroom/Advisory teacher by email this evening.
Urgent Request: We need 6 more Host Families for Interns Arriving in late August
Have you considered hosting but still have a few questions, or would like to hear from a current host family, what it's like to host?

Email Katharina Schirg your questions or a time you're able to connect by phone/zoom and she can answer them! Want to get your family members excited? Click here to "meet" the interns who will arrive around August 19 and stay until January 13.

Ready to apply to host? Skip right ahead to the Host Family Application.
Without the generosity of our wonderful volunteer host families, the TCGIS Intern Program could not exist. Herzlichen Dank!
Last Day of School Dismissal Reminder
Please follow the Early Release Day schedule next Wednesday: school ends at 12:45pm. All students will be dismissed per the regular dismissal process from the school building. Students will not be released at the park.
Please remember to set your dismissal mode changes in PikMyKid by 11:40am Wednesday. Danke!
Socialize with other Families on the Last Day of School!
As families will not be joining students at the school picnic (except for a limited number of parent volunteers), you can join other TCGIS parents and guardians to socialize and catch up before summer begins! On Wed., June 15th, the PTO will be hosting a gathering at the Picnic Shelter at the West Como Picnic Grounds from 10-12:30. (1199 Midway Parkway, near the playground).
Spring Universal Screening Results
Hello TCGIS families!

We have just finished our spring school-wide screening. Students completed assessments specific to their grade level in reading, math, or both of these areas. Results were communicated via email to all TCGIS families last week.

We do want to acknowledge that there was a typo for accuracy percentages for the German reading fluency measure (KG-5th grade). If your email indicated that there was “1%” accuracy on this measure, please note that this was intended to be “100%.” We apologize for the error.

If you did not receive results for one or more of your children at TCGIS with respect to spring universal screening, please email Jessie Kember

If you still have questions or concerns after reviewing the results, we encourage you to review this resource.

As always, thank you for all that you do.
TCGIS Screening Team
We are so close! Can you help us reach our Annual Fund goal?
Wow! Our Garden of Gratitude was filled with more than 150 tributes to staff, students and community members. There's still time to make a gift to the TCGIS Annual Fund. Your gift will help us reach our annual goal of $110,000 - we're less than $4,000 away!

We are grateful for all the tremendous ways our school community gives back. Thank you for all you do!
Reminders
