Liebe TCGIS Gemeinschaft! / Dear TCGIS community,
I am happy to report on several joyful things that are unfolding around the school this time of year.
- Kindergarteners released butterflies after raising them in the classroom.
-
Second graders enjoyed a field trip to Gibbs Farm in glorious weather to learn about pioneer and Dakota history.
- Middle schoolers have been showcasing their dramatic prowess in German (with live audiences!) in plays from Hamlet to Struwwelpeter.
- Middle schoolers also danced the night away last Friday to playlists they helped select in a happy evening of friendship and community.
-
Finally, thanks to your generosity, we raised $18,820 in May, almost $13,000 last week alone. We are now just under $7,000 from reaching our annual goal or $110,000. If you have not yet had a chance to give, please consider adding a tribute flower to our garden with an online donation.
mit herzlichem Dank
Kirsten

Moving to Masks Optional, effective Tue., May 31st
|
As we have been under 20 positive cases of Covid-19 and Ramsey county is at a medium risk level, TCGIS will transition to optional masking on Tuesday, May 31st. We strongly encourage 8th grade students going on the Chicago Capstone trip to continue masking.

|
Weekly Testing Ending on May 31st
|
Our last weekly testing event will be Tuesday, May 31st. We are thankful to Zepto for their partnership and their support in our mitigation efforts this year. In addition, we are thankful to all our families who opted into testing. With regular testing, we were able to quickly identify and isolate individuals who were asymptomatic for Covid-19.

COVID-19 Boosters Recommended for Kids 5 Years and Older
|
Last week, the CDC expanded eligibility of COVID-19 vaccine booster doses to everyone 5 years of age and older. CDC now recommends that children ages 5 through 11 years should receive a booster shot 5 months after their initial Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination series.
Boosters and vaccines are readily available throughout the Metro. Check with your physician or schedule at your local pharmacy.
Find a booster or vaccination convenient for your family here.

How do we support our children in developing healthy coping skills?
|
Once more we are faced with navigating the devastating news of a school shooting. It’s hard to know how to talk to our children about it when we ourselves barely have words for it. You might wonder should we talk to them about it? Why? What should we say? To help our children develop healthy coping skills they need adults to provide structure, support and hope. Here are some helpful resources:
Yesterday Director Christensen and Board Chair Alkatout sent this message with additional resources.

|
Our Garden of Gratitude is now filled with 140 tributes to staff, students and community members. There's still time to make a gift to the TCGIS Annual Fund and 'plant' a flower in the garden with your tribute. Your gift will help us reach our annual goal of $110,000 - we're less than $7,000 away!
We are grateful for all the tremendous ways our school community gives back. Thank you for all you do!

2022-23 Bus Planning Survey
|
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we have navigated an incredibly difficult year of transportation shortages together.
We are working diligently to negotiate our busing contract for the 22-23 school year with CSTMN as well as other vendors. Because negotiations are ongoing, we do not have details of the busing situations next year. In our conversations with other districts and charter schools, we know that the nationwide bus driver shortage continues to severely impact our local public schools, including ours. We are doing everything we can to return to four bus routes for next year and will notify you with any updates or changes as they come.
Please complete ONE planning survey per family.
The planning survey deadline is Friday, June 3.
