College Financial Aid Night at LMHS Nov. 10
education_savings.jpg Financial Aid at La Marque High School is scheduled for 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, November 10.

This is a great opportunity for parents to learn about financial planning, saving for college and Financial Aid. Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), a part of the U.S. Department of Education, is the largest provider of student financial aid in the nation

The program will begin with an introduction about financial aid (types of awards available, how to apply, the FAFSA process) and end with a step-by-step guide for creating FSA IDs for parents who have never filled out the FAFSA before. Then parents/students can independently fill out their FAFSAs with guidance from College of the Mainland's Title V Financial Advisor.

To get the most out of this workshop, students and parents should bring or have access to the following information:
  1. Their social security number (or alien registration number)
  2. Their 2015 tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned
  3. Any records of untaxed income (if applicable)
  4. For "dependent students" (according to the definition as used by financial aid administrators
), students will also have to bring the aforementioned documents or information for their parent(s).

Lucas headed to State in UIL Congress

Congratulations to Jakob Lucas, a senior at Texas City High School. He qualified for State in UIL Student Congress 5A! This is the first time Texas City will have a competitor go to State in this event.

Student Congress models the legislative process of democracy. Contestants draft legislation (proposed laws and position statements) submitted to the tournament, and they research the docket of bills and resolutions dealing with real-world  social and political policies prior to the contest to prepare their speeches. At the tournament, students caucus in committees, deliver formal discourse on the merits and disadvantages of each piece of legislation, and vote to pass or defeat the measures they have examined. Parliamentary procedure forms structure for the discourse, and students extemporaneously respond to others' arguments over the course of a session.

Congratulations to Jakob and Speech & Debate teacher Victoria Graves.
Special Olympics wins 4 medals
Congratulations to our Special Olympics athletes who competed in the Area 22 Volleyball tournament. Medal Count: 3 Golds; 1 Silver Way to go, team! Our Olympians are pictured with Donna Peterson, TCISD Director of Special Education and Special Olympics Coaches MC Giusti and Shone Evans.
School Board calls for letters of interest
for vacant District 2 board position
The TCISD School Board approved the new single member districts and called for letters of interest for District 2.

The TBoard of Trustees will appoint a citizen living in District 2 to the board until the May 2017 election. Anyone interested in being considered for that position must submit a letter of intent to the Texas City ISD Superintendent Dr. Cynthia Lusignolo no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016. Letters should be delivered to her attention at the TCISD Simpson Educational Support Center, 1700 Ninth Avenue North, Texas City, TX 77590.  Eligible candidates should live in the newly adopted District 2 area.

Trustees wanted to approve the new boundaries first before appointing a person to fill District 2 so that a citizen from the former La Marque ISD can have representation on the board as early as possible.Trustees approved the redistricting boundaries for a 6-1 district. That includes 6 single member districts and one at-large.

See the newly approved map on the Redistricting website.
