Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Fall has arrived and it seems eerily quiet around here with all the summer events wrapped up. We know it won’t last long, due to popular demand, we are adding a full line-up of classes this fall and winter, including the brand new Cyber Security for Seniors. There is a blurb on that below.

We will also have The First Returns Live for you on November 3rd on channel 22 and our YouTube channel. Hosted by Robert Kam and Tony Taylor, First Returns Live will bring information and updates on our local elections. If you haven’t filled out your ballot yet, be sure to check out the links we share below for the League of Women Voters Candidate Forums.

TCMedia is celebrating our 40th year! and we are excited to host a special celebration on Saturday, December 5th. There will be a daytime event for families and an evening adult gathering too. More details on that coming to your inbox in the next few weeks.

The Give Local Campaign is coming up early November, and we are turning to our supporters to help us KEEP TCMEDIA FOR THE COMMUNITY. Your help and support are welcome and needed. Find more information on how to participate on our website.

Also, a heartfelt thank-you to the League of Women Voters, William D. Ruckelshaus Center, the Washington Policy Center, TVW, Thurston County Chamber, LOTT Clean Water, and the many volunteers and supporters who contributed to our efforts to foster an informed and engaged public.

While we catch our breath here for a minute, I also want to thank you for being a supporter of our community ~ read on for more news!

The Summer Camp Media Makers continued to amaze us with their creativity. It was wonderful to see participants return to the studio at the end of the summer for a special screening. Watching youth share their work with family, friends, and community members was especially rewarding for our staff reflecting the imagination, collaboration, and technical skills they developed throughout the program.

Thank you for celebrating and supporting the next generation of media makers. We appreciate all that you do to strengthen local media and community engagement.

We Have A New Instructor!

Moema Umann is a Brazilian filmmaker, and co-owner/founder of MoTif Productions. She holds a M.F.A. in directing from The Actors Studio in New York. Her work seeks to explore new ways of telling stories through a mix of film, drawing, animation, photography, and poetry. Through her projects she aims to create opportunities for other underrepresented artists to collaborate.

She will be teaching screenwriting and acting for the camera (details below). Check out this video about Moema and her background. See the complete schedule at tcmedia.org.

Acting For the Camera #14763

Nov 7, 2026 - Nov 21, 2026 Sat Noon - 4:00 PM

All great screen performances begin with the actor. Participants will build a truthful, fully realized character before exploring the Method—separating myth from practice through exercises useful on screen. The course then covers camera techniques, including marks, blocking, framing, and movement, along with set etiquette, industry terminology, and strategies for confident collaboration. By the end of the class, participants will understand that the camera does not change acting, it asks actors to trust the process more deeply. Instructor: Moema Umann
