Join Maggie McIntosh, her family, and Tuscany-Canterbury neighbors for the Stony Run Bridge Naming Celebration in memory of Amy Mickel, Maggie's sister.

Saturday, May 20 10:30

No Rain Date: but if rains, bring an umbrella, and take comfort that the program is short and dogs love the rain.

Stony Run Bridge Bridge Naming Celebration

The Amy Mickel Bridge

Stoney Ford Road at Linkwood

Amy Mickel loved walking dogs for so many people and families in Tuscany-Canterbury. She started with her sister Maggie McIntosh's dogs and soon found herself helping at Gardens of Guilford resident Brooke Murdock. From there the word spread! She formed a small business named “The Third Dog” and enjoyed neighbors and four-legged friends all through Tuscany Canterbury.

One of Amy’s favorite spots to walk her furry friends was Wyman Park. Frequently she suggested and even complained that the community needed a bridge to connect both sides of the Stony Run. So, when the Friends of Wyman Park approached Maggie for state funding to connect the Stony Run Path from Roland Park to Hampden, the bridge became an element in the design.

Amy died in 2012 and three years ago, the Baltimore City Council named the bridge in Amy’s memory at the request of Maggie and Tuscany-Canterbury. On May 20th the Tuscany Canterbury community will come together with her family, former Delegate Maggie McIntosh, Mari Selby, Evan Mickel, Eric Mickel, her mother Fran Mickel, and nieces and nephews to dedicate the bridge.

The Ma and Pa Railroad went under the University Bridge until 1954. Today the Stony Run Walking Path follows the tracks of the Ma and Pa.

There was no short, safe, and scenic way to walk to Wyman Park and Hampden from Tuscany-Canterbury. Picture from 2012.

To obtain an anti-theft device:

  • Take a copy of your vehicle registration to the Northern District police station located at 2201 W. Coldspring Lane to receive it.

  • If you are unable to come in person to pick up a device, please submit your request to Northern@baltimorepolice.org so our Neighborhood Coordination Officers can schedule a day and time to deliver the device to you.

Tuscany Road Traffic Calming

Your Input is Needed

In coordination with the Calvert School, TCNA is looking at potential improvements to Tuscany Road to slow traffic and make it safer for kids and adults to cross the street. The TCNA Streets Committee would like your feedback on the following proposed improvements

New raised crosswalks across Tuscany Road that would act like speed humps and improve visibility of crosswalks.

Potential locations:

  1. At the existing crosswalk at the Calvert School's lower school entrance
  2. At the existing crosswalk at Stoneyford Road.

Additional locations might be along Tuscany Road between Linkwood Road and Stoneyford Road.

No on-street parking would be affected by these changes.

No plan has been finalized. These are the beginning thoughts and suggestions. The goal is to make Tuscany Road safer for the entire community. The Streets Committee needs to hear your comments, thoughts, and ideas now.

Your input is needed about Tuscany Road Traffic Calming

A speed table or raised crosswalk is wider than a speed hump. There are several raised crosswalks on San Martin Drive through the JHU campus.

A speed cushion allows emergency vehicles to pass unimpeded, but would slow down cars, trucks, and SUV's

Last Season: Major Projects Completed

  • Spring 2022: Added new rows of sedges and performed major pruning at the 39th Street Garden
  • Fall 2022: Undertook a major replanting in the Tuscany Oval

Goals 2023:

  • Convene a team of neighbors caring for each “adopted” garden plot.
  • Expand list of "as needed" gardeners to help with gardening tasks

The 4 "adopted" plots:

  • 39th Street near Canterbury
  • Tuscany oval at Ridgemede
  • Ridgemede plot
  • Entrance to the large bridge at Linkwood and Stoney Ford

Responsibilities: Minor to major depending on your energy/enthusiasm level and time available

  • Routine occasional maintenance (weeding, mulching, pruning, or watering) when needed (we could contact you via email as to what is needed, when and where)
  • Equipment is available to use (shovels, rakes, lawn bags, etc.) if needed.
  • TCNA dues pay for the mulch, plants, and other necessary supplies.

Tuscany-Canterbury is a beautiful neighborhood and we want to keep it that way.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!

Calvert Liaison Committee

Amy Mutch, Chair

Committee Members: Ferd Latrobe (Canterbury Road), Ned Lewison (Gardens of Guilford), Arna Margolis (Tuscany/Lombardy)

Quarterly Report, May 2023

The TCNA/Calvert School Liaison committee had their final meeting of the school year on Wednesday, May 17. I would like to thank Arna Margolis, Ned Lewison, and Ferd Latrobe for serving on the committee and agreeing to continue their service through 2024. I’d also like to thank the neighbors who have monitored the carpool lines and reported any sustained backups or traffic infractions.  Our communications with Calvert about traffic concerns have been well received and  it has remained in compliance with the guidelines set in the longstanding agreement with TCNA.

The liaison committee was tasked to address a few unresolved issues of the Woods Committee. This included the painting of the fence surrounding the cooling tower, dead tree removal in the woods, and the replacement of 7 newly planted trees that did not survive from last summer. Calvert has addressed these issues and plans are in place for a resolution.

The new construction at the rear of the lower school will be moving along after a delay in city permitting. Late October is the adjusted date for completion. A new slate roof is being installed this summer as well.

Calvert continues to raise concerns over lawn damage from the city dump trucks that back up the driveway at 200 Tuscany Road when the Gardens of Guilford have their dumpster serviced. Ned Lewison agreed to discuss the matter with the board of The Gardens of Guilford.

The Agreement of Restrictive Covenants will expire in 2026. As both Calvert School and TCNA desire to have a continued positive working relationship, a future agreement will need to be established. Tom Travers will serve as our Calvert’s summer contact and please don’t hesitate to contact me. amyemutch@yahoo.com
