Warm thanks to Crissy Straub
and Malinda Dublin, of MC Coaching, for once again volunteering their services to help train and guide our runners from the beginning of the process all the way through to race day. This is their second year coaching our team.

Each year our Marathon Team plays a crucial role in raising much-needed funds to support TCR's services for grieving children, teens, and families. Runners receive ongoing support from The Children's Room in reaching their fundraising goals.

We are incredibly grateful to the John Hancock Non-Profit Marathon Program for granting us bibs for the 8th year in a row.

Over the past seven years, our marathon teams have raised  over $525,000 for The Children's Room!

A Light in the Darkness:
On Grieving in the Winter

"Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness." ~ Desmond Tutu

It is often acknowledged that the holiday season can add many logistical and emotional burdens for those who are grieving. Less often acknowledged are the shifts in weather and light that happen as winter arrives and progresses. Here in New England, the days become not only colder, but also shorter and much darker, and these changes may have an effect on our mood, our behavior, and how we care for ourselves and our families as we grieve.

We offer our reflections and tips for grieving in winter months. We hope you find them helpful.
Teen Program:
Participants Work Together at Boda Borg

On December 3rd, a group of 18 teens and adults from The Children's Room challenged their wits and flexibility at Boda Borg Boston!

Relying on their collective skills and collaboration, the teams encountered time-limited, team-building puzzles and obstacles in their attempts to escape from Alcatraz, swing through a jungle, compete in a quiz game show, and more! The group discussed beforehand that the focus was not on how many Quests they could achieve, but rather on their willingness to attempt new things, work together, and retry challenges using new strategies. This open-mindedness and flexibility was related back to their daily lives, as a life skill.

While the teens loved Boda Borg so much that most asked to return next year, their biggest takeaways were the friendships that they formed! They shared comments afterwards such as, "I really like being able to meet others . . . It's really fun just doing something together, a great opportunity to just chill."
