The Future Looks Bright:
Welcoming Our New Executive Director, Liz Cohen!

We are excited to share that Liz Cohen is the new Executive Director for The Children's Room.
Liz brings with her a more than 20-year career dedicated to communities without a voice and those dealing with trauma and loss, and a successful track record as a nonprofit executive director. She has extensive fundraising experience and is known for her ability to collaborate, bring people with diverse perspectives together, and create sustainable impact.

Most recently, Liz served as a Senior Development Officer for Jewish Family & Children's Services (JF&CS). Prior to joining JF&CS, Liz was the Executive Director for Families First Parenting Programs where she oversaw the mission, vision, and strategic growth of the organization. When she joined in 2012 Liz was tasked with rebuilding the organization and re-engaging the 18-member Board. In addition to providing strategic leadership, Liz has extensive experience overseeing long term and day-to-day operations.

Welcome, Liz! We're so glad you're here!

Announcing Our 2018 Boston Marathon Team

We're proud to introduce the runners of our 2018 "Miles & Memories" Boston Marathon Team!

Pictured left to right, this year's team members are: John Shea, Becca Braun, Tim O'Brien, Meghan Murphy, Paudie O'Connor, and Lindsay Shelton

Warm thanks to Crissy Straub and Malinda Dublin, of MC Coaching, for once again volunteering their services to help train and guide our runners from the beginning of the process all the way through to race day. This is their third year coaching our team.

Each year our Marathon Team plays a crucial role in raising much-needed funds to support TCR's services for grieving children, teens, and families. Runners receive ongoing support from The Children's Room in reaching their fundraising goals.

We are incredibly grateful to the John Hancock Non-Profit Marathon Program for granting us bibs for the ninth year in a row.

Over the past eight years, our marathon teams have raised over $656,000 for The Children's Room!
A Taste of Togetherness:  TCR Teen Culinary Day
at Christopher Kimball's Milk Street

On December 9th, 13 teens gathered to experience a special TCR Teen Culinary Day rooted in a curiosity and shared passion for food and flavor. The group first met together at TCR, enjoying lunch, a food-based icebreaker, and an Opening Circle to recognize shared experiences. A participant shared afterwards that "[It was] a really fun way to meet other teens."

The group then traveled together to  Christopher Kimball's Milk Street, located in downtown Boston.  The teens had the opportunity to work closely together in small teams, trying their hand at mixing, rolling, and cooking yogurt flatbreads in a cast iron skillet and flavoring them with a variety of self-prepared herbed butters.

The whole group settled down together to enjoy a family-style meal. As a meaningful addition to the event, the teens had been invited to each bring and share about a "memory recipe" or image of a food connected to their person who died.

Genuine appreciation is extended to Christopher Kimball for generously donating the staff time, ingredients, and kitchen time for the event; and warmest of thanks to our hosts: Rosie Gill and the culinary volunteers, who placed many hours, effort, and skill into preparing and facilitating the event.

Upcoming Teen Programs

TCR Teens-Only
Grief Support Group
Wednesdays, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
March 14th through May 9th

This unique group is for teens only and is a different format from our typical "family-based" peer support groups. It's a space to meet other teens who have gone through similar things, hang out, talk, laugh, and share some good food! Dinner will be provided!

Saturday, February 10th
2:30 pm -5:30 pm

No artistic or previous experience necessary! Local artisan   Karenna Maraj will share demonstrations of a variety of interesting and easily mastered techniques, including stamping, beading, patina, and epoxy. Teens will then be given time to work independently, experimenting and creating unique, personal key chains, pendants, money clips, bracelets, or ornamental pieces. As a meaningful addition, teens may incorporate imagery, photographs, or other embellishments to create mixed-media pieces involving metals.

This  FREE workshop will be held at The Children's Room, with all necessary materials provided.
