Greetings!

As the new Executive Director of Tower Cancer Research Foundation (TCRF), I am humbled and honored to tell you a little about myself and the important work we are doing.

As an inspirational leader with 15 years of nonprofit healthcare experience, I come to TCRF with a passion to support its mission to create outsized impact in the fight against cancer by advancing groundbreaking research and profoundly supporting people affected by the disease. I bring extensive experience in fundraising, marketing, and operations, and look forward to continuing to support TCRF’s valuable work.

We are excited to share a few updates with you today. Below you will find information from one of our Funded Researchers, highlights from some of our Community Partners, and more inspiring news from the Foundation.

Looking ahead to the rest of 2022, we have many activities in store. In December, TCRF will announce its next class of Scientific Research and Community Partner Grantees, signaling the beginning of another year of funding high-impact cancer research and survivorship support programs.

Thank you for your continued support! All of our work is made possible because of you.

With Gratitude,

Steven Abramson
Executive Director
2015 Jessica M. Berman Memorial Fund Senior Investigator Grant
In his TCRF-funded research project, Dr. Pietras developed a novel translational strategy to address the challenge of endocrine resistance in patients with estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer. This groundbreaking discovery may allow the development of a new therapeutic approach to manage advanced breast cancer and promote the long-term survival of patients afflicted with this disease.

Vietnamese American Cancer Foundation (VACF)
The Vietnamese American Cancer Foundation (VACF) is commemorating 20 years of dedicated community services. With the support of TCRF's 2022 Community Partner Grant, the Cancer Navigation and Survivorship program has increased cancer awareness and knowledge for 537 community members, enabled 277 individuals to access healthcare/cancer screenings, and supported 52 cancer patients, survivors, and their families this year.

VACF has grown tremendously to address various social determinants of health, and to reflect its growth as an organization, has officially adopted a new name: Vital Access Care Foundation (VACF). However, they are still the VACF of the community and remain committed to fighting cancer in a comprehensive approach.
Cancer Legal Resource Center (CLRC)
Cancer Legal Resource Center (CLRC) is a program of the Disability Rights Legal Center (DRLC) and is committed to providing information and resources about cancer-related legal issues to members of the cancer community across the nation.

The 2022 Community Partner Grant from TCRF is supporting the CLRC's 2022 Empower Hour Webinar Series. This four-part educational webinar series focuses on providing legal information and resources to low-income, underserved individuals affected by cancer in Southern California and across the United States. As of October 28, 2022, the webinar series has garnered 447 registrants, with a total of 295 attendees through live streaming and webinar replays combined.
Special guest, Dr. Chanita Hughes-Halbert, of USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, joined Magnolia House for a discussion on clinical trials. Watch the recording to learn about common misconceptions around clinical trials, questions to ask your healthcare provider, and the importance of diversity in clinical trials.
