Looking Forward
Greetings Club friends! I hope your new year is off to a great start and you and your families continue to be healthy and safe.
I am so excited to be holding our February meeting with our guest speaker Mandy Uhrich. Mandy has an impressive outdoor industry background and I can’t wait for her to share some of her knowledge to help us succeed the next time we are out fishing.
I want to give a big THANK YOU to Tony Roach for guiding us out on Mille Lacs for our 2nd Annual Ice Fishing Clinic. We had a great turnout, so I also want to thank all the club members who turned out for the day as well. Tony and his crew did an outstanding job making sure we were all comfortable on the ice, giving us advice on the right tackle and techniques and putting us on spots to catch fish. Make sure to check out our Facebook page to see all the great pictures of the walleyes caught during our day.
This coming Saturday we will be hosting our Minnesota Military Youth Ice Fishing event on Big Marine Lake. It is such a fun day helping these kids and introducing them to the sport of ice fishing. If you are interested in volunteering, check out how to sign up in the article below. This event could not be possible without all of our great sponsors and YOU our club members. Thank You!
I want to welcome our new club sponsors, Cold Snap Outdoors and Spire Credit Union. I’m looking forward to partnering with these great companies as we continue to grow our club.
I look forward to seeing you all at the February meeting and don’t forget to bring a friend!

Driven by Midwestern Values Since 1934
A lot has changed since our founding in 1934, and in many ways, we’ve changed right along with it. However, there’s one thing that hasn’t changed – the friendly, personal, and genuine service you’ll get at SPIRE. That isn’t quaint, or something that used to happen back in “the good old days.” It’s happening here, and it’s happening now. Please remember, SPIRE is always here for you. Visit us at:

Minnesotans can apply to serve on committees that advise the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources about fisheries and wildlife topics.
The DNR seeks to fill open seats on the Mille Lacs Fisheries Advisory Committee (MLFAC), and the Minnesota R3 Council.
DNR’s 2020 fish stocking successful, despite challenges
Anglers can look forward to positive results from fish stocking that the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources conducted in 2020, despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. While the vast majority of fish in Minnesota waters are the result of natural reproduction in healthy habitats, stocking can provide angling opportunities where they might not otherwise exist. “This ended up being a productive year for fish stocking even as COVID-19 changed how we performed our work,” said Brian Nerbonne, DNR central region fisheries manager. “Our staff were able to find creative ways to stock fish in Minnesota waters.” In mid-April, the DNR canceled its 2020 egg collection operations for walleye, northern pike, muskellunge and steelhead because the work could not be done safely under COVID-19 guidelines.

Big thank you to Tony Roach and crew on hosting our 2nd annual Ice Fishing Camp
Good friends, great weather and a decent fish bite made for perfect day of ice fishing on lake Mille Lacs. The day started out foggy, with no wind and it never changed. The group caught fish and had a great time. it was good to have some fun, and fish together on the hard water. Tony and crew lead the way and supplied all the gear for all 25 club members. We had some awesome prize donations for the event, from Roaches Guide Service, Scheels, St. Croix, Rapala and TCWU. Tony donated a St. Croix ice rod for the biggest fish and a Rapala prize package for 2nd place.
Enjoy a few pics from the day below and click on the link to view the entire photo gallery.
