Jarrad and Jordan Fluekiger join

TCWU as guest speakers

Thursday February 6th at 7:00 pm

We are excited to host Captain's Jarrad and Jordan Fluekiger of Rutting Ridge Outfitters at our club meeting on Thursday February 6th.

Captain's Jarrad and Jordan Fluekiger are multi-generation, legendary guides who grew up fishing the Mississippi River and Lake Pepin. Jarrad is a third generation and Jordan is an amazing 4th generation guide. Along with guiding, they are professional walleye fisherman and have fished at many professional levels including H2H (HEAD2HEAD), FLW, Masters Walleye Circuit, and AIM. Jarrad's achieved several prestigious finishes; 1st in the AIM Saginaw Bay, and 4th in the FLW Championship. He has been ranked as high as 1st in the nation and was selected to fish the H2H TOP 32 fishing tour.

Jarrad and Jordan specialize at fishing wing dams, three-way and suspended trolling. They are experienced Bass and Perch anglers on Pools 4 thru 7. Jordan is one of the youngest river rats with a Captains license on the Mississippi River. When he is not fishing, hunting, or on the ice, he works for the Corps of Engineers, which really keeps him locked into what is happening on this amazing stretch of water.

We hope you can join us at our February club meeting to learn from Jarrad and Jordan. They have accumulated 4 generations of fishing knowledge throughout their lifetime and we look forward to learning how they fish this beautiful and somewhat intimidating stretch of water.

Great day at our Club outing with Tony Roach

We had a great day at our 5th Annual Ice Fishing Camp with Tony Roach. We were blessed to hook up on some special schools of Jumbo Perch, which made for a lot of fast action-fish catch' in! Ice spoons with Euro-larvae, minnow heads and even no bait were all catching fish, which made for a exciting and fast paced day.

End of "One Size Fits All" Tackle Boxes

We believe that "One Size Fits All" equipment leads to an average "One Size Fits All" fishing experience. Usually that experience involves trying to find the lure you want, trying to untangle all the lures from the one you want, and sometimes getting stuck by a hook. That's why we decided to make our tackle boxes as specialized as the anglers using them. The T3 Pro Series positions you to take that next step in your passion, all while leaving one less excuse of why the fish didn't bite.
The Tangle-free Tackle Tray features
  • Closed cell foam to withstand the elements, featuring
  • Keep hooks separated
  • Feature hook wells with integrated drain hole at the base
  • Entire lure color profile on display
  • Enables hook-free lure handling
  • Secures and protects lures from banging around in the box
  • Makes organization easy and sustainable
  • Adds flotation to tackle box

Guest Speaker Re-cap

Featuring Jason Durham

TCWU welcomed Park Rapids fishing Guide Jason Durham to speak at our January club meeting.

Jason grew up in Nevis, MN (population 388) and started guiding at the young age of 15. His dad would drop him off at the lake in the morning, since he didn’t have a driver’s license. Looking forward, 2024 signifies his 32nd season as a guide. He resides in Park Rapids and the area, which offers hundreds of lakes to fish with over 400 within a 25 mile radius.

Not only is he an experienced fishing guide, but also earned a Master’s Degree in Education. He has been a teacher in Nevis Public School District 308 for twenty years and teaches KINDERGARTEN!

If you’ve never been fishing before, have limited experience or simply want to gain a better understanding of the lakes surrounding the Park Rapids area, Jason would love to have you aboard. Just as he would do for his students in his classroom, he will take you from whatever ability level you’re at and help you learn. Ultimately, learning about fishing equates to catching more fish!

For those who missed the meeting you will find a recap of his presentation below.

Engage your friends and schedule an annual fishing trip

Try a destination fishing trip with a group of friends. Consider Lake Winnipeg for starters. The lake is known for its famous Emerald walleyes, which are trophy size!

  • It's not a long drive and crossing the border is easy
  • They have all of the resort amenities we are accustomed to here in Minnesota such as lodging, fish house rental, and guides/outfitters
  • It’s a huge body of water, but most anglers fish the south basin, and if you want to maximize your time consider hiring a guide such as Matt Cornell at Bruin outfitting and guide service
  • Go as a group to reduce expense and to support each other during the trip. There are no plowed roads and having a second vehicle will help overcome any winter adversity. Make sure to pack shovels, extra equipment and heavy-duty tow straps

Equipment

Rods - Get a feel for your fishing rod. It should have a soft enough tip for the lure you are using and enough backbone to set the hook and play the fish

Line – You can’t go wrong with mono or fluorocarbon and especially when the fish need a little extra finesse to bite. Consider lightening up to 3 lb. test if needed to help on tough fishing conditions

Fishing Tips

  • Want to catch a trophy fish or a limit of keepers? Then target lakes that support what you want to experience. Do your research and target for success!

  • We tend to feature our fishing around the sun-down, which is often considered the best fish activity of the day. Have you ever considered the sun-up bite? Jason called out that this can often be a better bite than sun-down. Keep your options open, and try new things.

  • Prepare to be mobile – if you are renting a house at a destination lake such as Leech, bring portable gear to give yourself more fishing options.

  • Be respectful don’t over crowd a fishing spot look for other opportunities close by or in another area of the lake. Trying something new often times rewards with new place to catch fish.

Special thanks to Jason for joining our club to talk fishing. We had an amazing meeting and appreciate all the walleye fishing tips along with the amazing stories on life as a guide.

Larry is an amazing educator, guide and is active on social media, which provides a great source of information, on the latest techniques and fishing tips.

We recommend that you follow Jason on social media. Click on the links below to learn more.
