Vessel Availability, Latest News & Updates

Dear Reader,

TDI-Brooks has over 25 years of vessel chartering and management experience and currently operates four research vessels on the spot market. These are multi-use vessels suited for a wide variety of oceanographic research duties.

Our vessels can also be used to accommodate our third party geotechnical equipment packages.

Updates for the Brooks McCall, Miss Emma McCall, Proteus and Gyre, can be found below.
R/V Miss Emma McCall
Miss Emma McCall available on the
US East Coast Q1-2023
The Miss Emma McCall will start an analog and multi-channel seismic offshore wind project next week at OCS-A-538 on the US East Coast .

The Miss Emma McCall's primary market niches in the US East Coast and GOM are analogue and digital geophysical surveys in addition to light geotechnical coring acquisition.
R/V Brooks McCall
Brooks McCall available on the
US East Coast early-October 2022
The Brooks McCall recently completed survey, geotechnical and benthic components for several offshore wind programs on the US East Coast.

The BMCC will be busy through mid- to late October completing 522 VC/CPT/VT and a few weeks of geotechnical work in 538. The BMCC has some smaller likely spot charter projects through the winter.

The Brooks McCall's geotechnical capabilities include 40m CPT-Stinger and Stinger-Sampler, 20m Jumbo Piston Cores, Neptune 3,000 and 5,000 CPT, vibracoring and box/grab sampling.
Both vessels are well suited for the following applications pertaining to offshore wind:

  • Site Assessment Surveys
  • Seabed & Soil Sediment Analysis
  • Foundation Site Installation Surveys
  • Cable Route Selection Surveys
  • Environmental Sampling & Testing
  • Metocean Wave & Tidal Analysis
  • UXO Mitigation
  • Geotechnical, Analytical & Environmental Laboratories
Both vessels have a full analog survey kit onboard as follows:

  • Norbit Winghead Multibeam (dual head) with QPS QINSy 9
  • Edgetech 4205 SSS with Discover and QPS QINSy 9
  • Geometrics G882 configured in TVG with MagLog and QPS QINSy 9
  • INNOMAR SES2000 SBP with SEISWIN
  • Applanix POS MV with Norbit MBES interface
  • Sonardyne Mini-Ranger 2
  • Xylem Castaway CTD
  • Single-Channel boomer with SonarWiz
R/V Proteus
Proteus is currently available in the GOM, Southern GOM, Caribbean, Mediterranean and Africa
The Proteus recently completed a geotechnical program in Mexican waters for one of the major IOCs. The Proteus is currently in the Gulf of Mexico where we next plan to complete a hand full of geotechnical coring projects.
The Proteus is outfitted with TDI-Brooks’ complete geotechnical tool kit including our suite of innovative geotechnical tools for soil sampling and measurement. These include our 0.5 and 1 meter box corers (BC), 6 and 9 meter piston corers (PC), 20 meter jumbo piston corers (JPC), vibracorers (VC), cyclic t-bar instrument (TBAR) and piezocone penetrometers including our 40 meter CPT-Stinger and our 10 meter Gravity CPT tool (gCPT), Neptune 5,000 CPT.

The Proteus has a Kongsberg EM-710 (1x1) hull-mounted multibeam (MBES) for surveys to ~2,500m water depth for performing surface geochemical “seep-hunting” (SGE) and seabed heatflow surveys (HF).

This vessel is well suited for the following applications:

  • Seabed Geotechnical Coring and Measurements
  • Seabed Geochemical “Seep-Hunting” (SGE)
  • Seabed Heat Flow Surveys (HF)
  • 2DHR Seismic Multi Channel Geophysical Site Surveys
  • Pipeline Damage Assessments and Inspection
  • Offshore Cable Route Surveys
R/V Gyre
Soonest Availability for the Gyre in Southern GOM, Caribbean and West Africa is mid-October 2022
The Gyre is currently working a Geophysical and Geotechnical program off Trinidad & Tobago . We anticipate this project finishing up mid-October.

The GYRE is outfitted with a Kongsberg EM 302 multibeam (MBES) echosounder capable of high-resolution seabed mapping from 10 meters to more than 8,000 meters. The Gyre has executed numerous offshore Surface Geochemical “Seep Hunting” Exploration (SGE) and Heat Flow programs for the world’s leading petroleum producers.
The Gyre is also capable of performing deep-water geotechnical coring including 20-meter Jumbo Piston cores (JPC), 40-meter CPT-Stinger acquisition. Other capabilities include environmental assessments, metocean, heat flow and environmental baseline studies (EBS).

This vessel is well suited for the following applications:

  • Seabed Geochemical “Seep-Hunting” (SGE)
  • Seabed Heat Flow Surveys (HF)
  • Seabed Geotechnical Coring and Measurements
  • 2DHR Seismic Multi Channel Geophysical Site Surveys
  • Pipeline Damage Assessments and Inspection
  • Offshore Cable Route Surveys
