OCTOBER 2016
Explore the new PBS Teachers' Lounge
and enter  the Teach Boldly sweepstakes

This fall, we are kicking off a new school year with the launch of TEACH BOLDLY, a year-long celebration to honor educators across the country. This multi-platform, teacher-centric campaign started on September 12, as part of Spotlight Education week. Throughout the year, TEACH BOLDLY will invite educators to explore the new PBS Teachers' Lounge - a creative digital space where teachers can share ideas, learn from peers, find daily inspiration, and tap into the resources they need to enhance their work in the classroom. Each day, visitors to the PBS Teachers' Lounge can also sign up to participate in the TEACH BOLDLY sweepstakes for a chance to win a one-month supply of coffee (plus a coffee maker, cups, and sleeves) for the teachers' lounge at their school. At the end of the school year, one grand-prize winner will be selected from all entries to receive a newly designed, furnished, teched-out teachers' lounge makeover at their school.

What does it mean to teach boldly? What are you doing to inspire your students? How are you innovating in your classroom? Share your insights, tips, strategies, words of wisdom, and photos with us on social media using #TeachBoldly. Your tweets and photos could appear on the PBS social hub. Make sure you tag @PBS and @GPBEducation
Explore the History of the Creek Nation
Our latest virtual field trip is now available

They keep coming! The Creek Nation virtual field trip is now available for students on our website and on the GPB app. This virtual experience provides students with an in-depth look at the lives of the Creek Indians prior to the arrival of the first settlers in Georgia, the fight to remain on their land, and their removal from Georgia in the 1830s. It is a perfect way to bring the content that students learn in the classroom to life.

Creek Nation addresses standards SS8H2 and SS8H4 of the Georgia Standards of Excellence for eighth grade Georgia studies. It also covers SS4H3b for fourth grade United States history. We recommend that students explore this virtual field trip after they have completed Unit 4 of the Georgia Studies Book: Our State and Our Nation or material referencing the removal of the Creeks from Georgia.
Episode eight covers "Conventions and Candidates"

The eighth episode of On the Campaign Trail with Bill Nigut recently launched, and it is sure to catch you and your students up on everything that has happened in the 2016 presidential race since the onset of summer vacation! "Conventions and Candidates" provides brief overviews of the Democratic and Republican national conventions that occurred in July and the individual that emerged as each party's presidential nominee. Students will also learn about the history of party conventions, how they have changed over time, and the definition of a party platform. Click for discussion guides and an overview of all On The Campaign Trail episodes.
