Our Perspective on Updating
The 2005 Citizens'  Master Plan

 By Nancy Johnson, CEO

Nancy Johnson
TEAM Punta Gorda applauds City Council's intention to update the 2005 Citizens' Master Plan, and we are looking forward to participating in the process. In 2005, on the heels of the devastation caused by Hurricane Charley, a group of citizens raised $250,000 in a very short time to commission the first Citizens' Master Plan. This group became TEAM Punta Gorda.

Once again, TEAM is prepared to help put the citizens' voice in the Citizens' Master Plan. We also agree that this time the City should take the lead, so that the results can be more easily implemented.  LEARN MORE about our perspective

St. Andrews South

It was fun in the sun at TEAM's 13th annual golf scramble, held on Satur da y, April 21st , at St. Andrews South Golf Club in Punta Gorda Isles. Nearly 80 enthusiastic golfers competed in an 18-hole format that held the promise of some great prizes.

"Some teams were serious but most were recreational," reports Co-Chair Kathy des Enfants. TEAM's Annual Golf Scramble, held in honor of its late CEO Judy Brentano, is an important fundraiser.

According to  TEAM CEO Nancy Johnson, "It was a beautiful day to be outdoors an d spirits were high. Many thanks to the golf committee, its chairs and everyone involved. Our Last Mixer of the Season Was a Beach Party

It was a fun night at the Torch Bar and Grill in Punta Gorda April 17th. Despite the fact that many TEAM friends and volunteers had already departed for their summer sojourn, the dining room was filled to capacity. The food was delicious and generously served through-out the evening.   READ MORE

What's more fun than watching a kid
catch a fish?  N OTHING!

The  4th Annual "Reel in the Fun" Kid's Pier Fishing Tournament was held on May 19th. The Maritime Committee once again teamed up with Downtown Bait and Tackle Shop for a day on the pier with the little ones. Downtown Bait and Tackle Shop supplied the bait and prizes while parents assisted their children in a catch and release fishing tournament.

There were 78 little fisher people who participated this year. Three prizes for most fish caught were awarded in each of the three age groups. The big winner reeled in 16 fish.

Every child received a certificate, a fishing pole with tackle boxes, and a raffle prize! Lunch was provided under a large tent and many adults went home with high-end raffle prizes. This is a popular event requiring about 25 volunteers to pull it off.

MESSAGES FROM TEAM -
Welcome to TEAM

Welcome Dan Kain, new Chairperson of the Bicycle Friendly Community Committee. Dan is a retired engineering consultant. He and his wife were international live-aboard sailors before coming permanently ashore in Punta Gorda in 2014. He is an avid bicyclist looking forward to making a difference.

Welcome Jeanne Hogan, new TEAM Talk Editor. She wanted to volunteer her time with TEAM Punta Gorda but didn't know in what capacity until her husband came home from the TEAM Build/Habitat for Humanity breakfast for volunteers. Nancy Johnson had shared they were looking for a new editor for TEAM's newsletter. That was it! Just exactly what Jeanne was looking for.

Share your time and talent with TEAM. You can make a difference in our community.

TEAM Builds
Volunteers Helping Others

By Bill Welsch
There was the slightest hint of chill in the April morning air as I emerged from my car and looked at the quaint, partially-built bungalow. I had responded to an email from TEAM Punta Gorda asking for assistance with construction of a Habitat for Humanity home.

I joined a dozen or so volunteers standing in a semi-circle listening to instructions from Tom, a Habitat for Humanity site supervisor. He explained that our tasks for the day were to install siding and soffits on the three-bedroom home. I joined forces with two other volunteers I knew from other TEAM projects and the three of us - after some siding installation training from Tom - jumped to it.  READ MORE
