TEDCO's annual Entrepreneur Expo was a day of celebration for the Maryland entrepreneurial community! In 2011 TEDCO held its first Entrepreneur Expo bringing together 300 entrepreneurs, leaders, innovators and more, and in its 9th year that number has increased to nearly 1000.

With 84 exhibitors, over 90 speakers, 3 keynotes and 24 speaker sessions, this year's Expo was another huge success!

TEDCO's Entrepreneur Expo energizes Maryland's startup ecosystem with record attendance

The Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) held its inaugural Entrepreneur Expo in 2011. The first Expo attracted approximately 300 attendees. Three times that number descended on The Hotel at the University of Maryland for its 9th annual Entrepreneur Expo on October 29th.

Robotics company from Silicon Valley plots major growth in new Pigtown headquarters

Startup Galen Robotics is moving into a 5,000-square-foot space in Pigtown where it plans to quickly scale its operations and grow its staff from 25 to up to 150 employees.

The surgical robotics company relocated to Baltimore from the Silicon Valley area. The company landed temporarily at FastForward, Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures' incubator and accelerator operation stationed in East Baltimore, before moving into the  LaunchPort inside the City Garage startup hub  in Port Covington. The LaunchPort is a 15,000-square-foot manufacturing and accelerator operation designed to help growing medical device startups as they build prototypes, move through regulatory processes and work toward commercialization.

Over 900 of the region’s entrepreneurs, business owners, venture capitalists and legislators gathered at TEDCO’s 2019 Entrepreneurial Expo last week to participate in a full day of workshops and events that facilitated networking and entrepreneurial education.

Bob Ackerman, managing director of AllegisCyber Capital, on what he told former Gov. Martin O’Malley about growing startups in the Maryland:

“It’s not just about the money. … It’s about creating an ecosystem and pulling it together so that the talent can establish itself and the capital will follow.”


CoapTech LLC awarded $1.2M grant from National Institutes of Health to support clinical evaluation and training for novel PUMA-G device

CoapTech LLC announced today that the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) awarded the company a two-year, $1.2M R44 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II grant on August 29, 2019. This builds on a $225,000 Phase I SBIR R43 grant and a $200,000 Maryland Industrial Partnerships (MIPS) grant awarded to the company last year.
