TEDCO Portfolio Company Spotlight: Curbio, Inc.

Curbio Inc. is a venture funded home renovation technology company that specializes exclusively in helping Realtors and their clients prepare their homes for sale in order to reduce days on market and increase seller proceeds. From its base in Potomac, Maryland, Curbio operates in the metro areas of Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Orlando, Dallas, Houston, and Phoenix. Operations will begin in Chicago, Tampa, and Miami before the end of 2019.

Curbio recently announced that it has secured $7 million in Series A funding. The funding round was Co-led by Camber Creek and Brick & Mortar. Founded in late 2017 by Matt Siegal and Rick Rudman, the company has raised $13.6 million in total financing and will use this latest round of financing to build out its proprietary technology and expand to new cities.

TEDCO Seed invested $500,000 in Curbio in May 2018 through the Gap Fund.

NIH Awards Sonavex, Inc . $3 Million Grant to Pursue New Vascular Surgery Applications for EchoMark® & EchoSure®

Sonavex, Inc., a privately held medical device company focused on empowered patient care, announced that it received a $3 million Phase IIB Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institutes of Health to use its EchoMark & EchoSure devices to support arteriovenous (AV) fistula maturation and long-term viability. SBA Awards Grants to 24 Organizations to Support Small Business Innovation and R&D Commercialization

The U.S. Small Business Administration granted 24 awards up to $125,000 per recipient in FY 2019 under its Federal and State Technology (FAST) Partnership Program. FAST’s objective is to improve outcomes for underrepresented entrepreneurs in SBA’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs and increase participation for women-owned, rural-based, and socially and economically disadvantaged firms.

New TEDCO Task Force Created to Improve Venture Capital and Support Opportunities for Women Entrepreneurs

The Maryland Technology Development Corporation  (TEDCO) , Maryland’s leading tech economic engine, recently announced the formation of a Task Force for Women Entrepreneurs to tackle this support and funding gap head on. The Task Force’s mission is to “…assess the challenges that women entrepreneurs in Maryland face when accessing capital and implement strategies to overcome those challenges.”
The Task Force, chaired by  Myra Norton , is dedicated to the recruitment, funding and operational support of women-owned and led startups in Maryland. 

TEDCO hires first government relations director

TEDCO , Maryland’s economic engine for technology companies, announces it has selected Jody Sprinkle as the new director of government relations to start on September 3, 2019. Sprinkle joins TEDCO with nearly 20 years as a policy analyst for various entities in the Maryland General Assembly. As TEDCO plans for new strategic growth throughout the organization, it’s eager to move forward with the support of this new position. 

TEDCO elects four new board execs amid internal reorganization

Maryland Technology Development Corp. has elected four new executive officers to its board of directors as the organization works to reshape its internal policies to meet new legislative requirements.

The state-backed funding group elected  Myra Norton , chief operating officer of Baltimore software firm Arena, as TEDCO's new chair.  Tina Williams-Koroma , president of local cyber security firm TCecure, was named vice chair.

TEDCO announces Entrepreneur Expo for Oct. 29

The Maryland Technology Development Corp. (TEDCO) announced the lunchtime keynote speaker for its annual Entrepreneur Expo, to be held at The Hotel at University of Maryland, on Tuesday, Oct. 29: Linthicum-based Paragon BioServices’ and the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s Marco Chacón.

TEDCO highlighted as an innovation best practices from around the U.S in the newly released The Brookings Institution report

The 20 highlighted initiatives include strong strategy-setting efforts in states like New Jersey, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Massachusetts, and efforts to promote business R&D activity in Rhode Island, Maryland, Ohio, Indiana, and New Jersey.
In addition, these best practices suggest how states can catalyze increases in early stage financing as Colorado, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Georgia, and Maryland have done, and how they are trying to counter regional innovation gaps, as North Carolina, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland, Massachusetts and Illinois are doing.

TEDCO’s Maryland Innovation Initiative Fund Continues to Deliver Substantial Impact for Maryland Biohealth Companies

The Maryland Technology Development Corporation’s (TEDCO)  Maryland Innovation Initiative (MII) , a program designed to propel research from partner universities towards commercialization, has had a strong, demonstrable impact on many important life science portfolio companies in the BioHealth Capital Region (BHCR).
