Principal's Message...
Greetings, Timmons Families!
As the school activities that surround the month of September are in full force, the excitement our students bring each day is heartwarming. The buzz surrounding our new playground definitely leads the way! We are happy to get back to our bus loop for recess each day. This month, our counselors are busy with delivering guidance lessons. They have also worked closely with our art and music teachers to develop a project that students will take part in for International Day of Peace. We will share more about the results of that project in a future update. If you attended our Parent Orientation last month, you may have recalled your child’s teacher sharing information about our new English Language Arts program that our district is using this year. It is titled CKLA which stands for Core Knowledge Language Arts. We spent time with this program last year to develop comprehension skills. This year we have added the Skills component that will address the phonics instruction. A parent letter will be sent home before each unit that will describe the topic of the unit, vocabulary that will be introduced, and questions that you can ask of your child to spark conversation at home. We are excited to work with your child this year as we build the foundational skills for reading. In future updates, we will share more about this topic as well as our intervention and enrichment process. Please enjoy some of the highlights from the past two weeks in this edition of Timmons News.
Sincerely,
Dave Rogaliner
| | Sharpening Our Executive Functioning Skills | |
Mrs. Tutkovics and Mrs. Mahoney have been spending time in our Kindergarten classrooms teaching about the Kimochis (Japanese for emotion). This series of lessons gives students direct instruction on how to communicate with others, take responsibility for mistakes and identify and manage emotions. In first through third grades, students are doing fun activities to stretch their working memory and build executive function skills. Mrs. Mahoney and Mrs. Tutkovics are going to be helping students all year long on improving flexible thinking in both the classroom and social situations as well as strengthening their working memory. These are two critical attributes that fall under the umbrella of executive functioning and support stronger learning and organization, which can lead to better outcomes for students.

This week, we celebrated the reopening of the Timmons Playground! Our students were greeted by our Superintendent, Dr. Willingham, Board Member, Mr. Jim Henry, and district treasurer, Mr. Seth Cales in front of the new playground. Mr. Rogaliner shared a few comments about the excitement the new playground brings to our students at Timmons. An official ribbon cutting took place and the playground is now accessible to everyone. Students were able to begin using the equipment on Tuesday. Each classroom will be afforded their own 20 minute timeframe over the next week to enjoy the playground to themselves. We want to thank our board of education and the TES PTO for their support to bring the new playground to Timmons!
**Special Note** We are currently hiring substitute proctors to support students during the recess experience, and with a new playground, now is the perfect time to join our team! The responsibilities include monitoring safety, assisting young children during recess periods, and having a little fun! The shift is daily from 10:35 to 1:05. | | Patriot Day September 11, 2025 | |
On Thursday, September 11, Timmons Elementary School recognized Patriot Day with a school-wide announcement honoring the lives lost and the heroes of September 11, 2001. Student activities involved listening to stories and making Patriot Day booklets that align with Social Studies standards.
Kenston Schools are committed to educating our students about the significance of this day and the values it represents — courage, service, and community.

Kenston Schools will participate from September 15 to 19 in Start With Hello Week, a national campaign created by Sandy Hook Promise to promote inclusion, connection, and a sense of belonging among students. The goal is to reduce social isolation and support youth mental health by ensuring that all students feel seen, heard, and valued within their school communities.
Throughout the week, each building will host a variety of activities designed to foster a welcoming environment. These small, simple, and supportive actions can make a meaningful difference and help create a more connected and compassionate school culture.
All students are encouraged to Wear Green on 9/17/25

We understand that parking at times can be congested; however, fire lanes are designated areas meant to be kept clear for emergency vehicles. These lanes must be available for emergency vehicles so they can respond quickly in case of an emergency. Blocking a fire lane can delay emergency response and endanger lives.
We ask that you always look for signage or curb markings and avoid stopping in fire lanes for any reason unless directed by emergency personnel. Overflow parking at the end of the school day for dismissal is the stadium parking lot.

Kenston Local Schools held its annual school bus evacuation drill at the beginning of the school year, reinforcing the District’s commitment to student safety and preparedness. The drill, which is required by state law, was conducted across all school buildings with participation from students, bus drivers, staff, and in conjunction with our local First Responders.
The evacuation drill provided an opportunity to practice exiting the bus quickly, safely, and in an orderly manner if needed. Bus drivers provided step-by-step instructions, and students practiced exiting from both the front and rear doors and moving to a place of safety 100 feet away from the bus. Kenston’s transportation team also reviewed key safety tips with students, including proper bus behavior, crossing procedures, and the importance of staying seated while the bus is in motion.
Kenston Local Schools encourages parents to discuss bus safety with their children and to reinforce the importance of following directions from drivers and school staff. Our top priority is making sure every student knows how to respond calmly and safely in an emergency. Practicing now can save lives later.

The Kenston Nutrition Services Department encourages families to visit the Nutrition Services Website for important information, including lunch menus, payment options, the meal application, wellness policy, and current employment opportunities.
